    Hi Brother!!!

The US created the UN in 1949 (or sth like that).
It helped maintaining peace throughout the cold war. Thanks to it the Western block could continue to negociate peacefully with USSR. It is the voice of the world and you cannot remain deaf!!!

I forgot that I was on the youth forum, forgive a 45 year old for chiming in. I'd vote right now to get US out of the U.N. They pass 1441 and then waffle on it and refuse to put any teeth in their resolution. They could hardly be any more irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, the U.S. created the U.N. However, the U.N. is now a decrepit, ineffective, toothless, stupid, useless, and anti-American organization. Saying this, I don't think the U.S. should withdraw. Despite such stupid moves as appointing a terrorist loving country head of the human rights commitee, we should still keep our membership if only to stay on better terms with the world. Still, if the U.N. doesn't like something we do, then bites for them(we'll just say it in a much nicer way [IMG] ). If they had done what they shoulda years ago we wouldn't be in a war right now.

We should fine them for taking up valuable real estate. That is about all they do you know.

Personally I believe the UN is a useless debating society that holds zero merit to actual law. I would recommend sending the UN to Paris and allow Washington DC to govern us. It's time that this contry get back to the constitution and the AV 1611 Bible. Thank you and good night.

The UN is an excellent idea. If it had teeth, it would work. Now that George W. Bush has gone against the UN's wishes, the UN has to do something about the U.S. If the UN does nothing, it will die out. At the very least, the UN should kick the U.S. off the security counsel and make it pay it's debts to the UN (the U.S. owes the UN more money than any other country)

    Matt

    P.S. I'm not anti-american...just anti-stupid politicians...

Matticus, I agree that the UN is a good idea, but then in theory so was Marxism. And the UN couldn't punish the US for going against their wishes, not after they let Iraq go so long without punishing them. If the UN kicks the US off the security council the US should withdraw from the UN. They have already kicked us off the human rights committee in favor of terrorist loving Lebanon. As for calling loans, go ahead. I'm sure it could be paid quite easily from the money that we are already pouring into foreign aid.

    Bro. Matt,
I'm not at all trying to start a fight with you, but I'd like to point out some serious flaws in your ideology.

#1- "If it had teeth it would work"
The UN will never be able to work because its members are given too much power, France showed how one nation could kill an entire resolution (If any UN resolution were passed by a unanomous vote with the exception of one country and that country choose to veto the motion it could kill the entire resolution)

#2- "George W. has gone against the UN's wishes"
President Bush did not go against the wishes of the UN, we went against the wishes of France, Germany, & Russia. We had the votes and the support needed in order to pass the resolution, however France was commited to blocking the motion at all costs.
In addition to having the votes for a third UN Resolution, we were given "authority" from the UN to go into Iraq whenever "Iraq breeched the previous UN resolutions" and even Mr. Blix said that Hussein did, on a number of occasions.

#3- "At the very least, the UN should kick the US off the Security Counsel..."
That would be real show of inteligence, kicking the nation who defeated the evil dictators of the 20th century off the Security Counsel. Kicking off the same nation who made the wicked, athiestic, comunist Regime in Russia backdown during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Kicking the same nation off the Security Counsel that brought and end to the Cold War, without firing a single shot. Kick the world's only "Super Power" off the Security Counsel.

#4- "Make it (USA) pay its debts to the UN"
Let me begin by asking you one question. Where is the UN located? If my memory serves me correctly it is in the PRIMEST REAL ESTATE LOT in the entire world. Right smack dab in the middle of New York City. Do you know how much the nations of the world paid New York or for that matter the US for the land. $000000000000000000000000
It was a gift from the Good Ol' US of A.
Do you know who financed 78% of the UN's Building Construction, once again the United States of America. What country funds the largest majority of the UN right now- The United States.

The US has given more money in humanitarian aid to all the other memebers of the UN combined. We feed the people of Russia, Afghanistan, North Korea... The US pays to much as it is.

And although we MIGHT owe more than any other country, we have also PAID more than any other country. If all the other members can go without financing the UN, why do you think that we should pay our share and theirs?

I vote send 'em packing... The UN Headquarters would make for a great Hotel.

I agree with you on everything until you get to money. It actually would not make much sense to kick the States off the security counsel. Here's where I disagree with you on the money though: The U.S. has paid more money to the UN outright, but every country pays based on how well their economy is doing. The U.S. has by far the best economy of any country. The U.S. has also spent the most money on humanitarian aid. But other countries give more per person. It depends how you measure dollar values. The U.S. pays the UN just enough money every year to stay on the security counsel. I'm sure it's a lot of money. But they have debts running from the mid nineties still. I don't know the exact figure, but I know they owe somewhere in the billions.

Umm, Matticus, your information is wrong. Read the UN Charter:

    Article 23
The Security Council shall consist of fifteen Members of the United Nations. The Republic of China, France, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America shall be permanent members of the Security Council. The General Assembly shall elect ten other Members of the United Nations to be non-permanent members of the Security Council, due regard being specially paid, in the first instance to the contribution of Members of the United Nations to the maintenance of international peace and security and to the other purposes of the Organization, and also to equitable geographical distribution.

Right there in black and white, the US CAN NOT be kicked off of the security council. We started this thing, do you really think Truman would've been stupid enough to make it so we could be kicked off?

I don't know, my grandfather once said that "the only thing would save Truman from hell was his ignorance!" [IMG]

In my opinion the United Nations is each day becomming more and more anti American, which is very bad- considering all that America has done for every member of the Security Counsel. [IMG]

Wait so you agreed to pay these dues - but decide later oh wait we're America - we dont have to keep our word - Thats not only dishonourable its unChristian - and considering that this is a board supposedly for Christians - one would think that yes be yes and no be no would hold.

Yes lets think about what America has done for so many countries

Funded terrorists in South America and supplied them with weapons

I forget how many democratic countries they have toppled into dictatorships

How many treaties they have violated - how many trade agreements they have backed out of - Why can someone lend me their fingers and toes Ive run out of room and Im just dealing with this hemisphere

Most of the people they helped set up - they now declare terrorists

Im really tired of the US complaining that people should be supporting its war of agression
