In my heart I am Independant Baptist but belong to a Southern Baptist Church. I did check Independant because I feel I am and our Southern Baptist Church is more like the Independant Church.

Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church (Independent). Est. 1916 Carraway, FL
Began as SBC and pulled out because of the SBC's support of the liberal Stetson University in Deland, FL.

Sorry about that. It's my ignorance of the various Baptist denominations (and I was one for 20+ years).

Growing up in the South, everyone was either Southern Baptist or Independent Baptist. As a result, I really didn't realize that there were so many "others" out there. BTW, what in the world is ABC and CBF???

PS - yes, there were some small Methodist and Presbyterian churches, but we knew they weren't saved anyway.

I'm not familiar with "liberal-minded" Baptists - especially on the BB. What do you mean?

I guess you must be one of those liberals that Scribe is talking about.

There's some on here. I won't name, names though.

Also, people that are Christians only in name. I found a lot of them on Livejournal.com.

We're Southern Baptist, but we're just as independent as any church. We have no one ruling over us telling us what to do or what to believe.

The church I attend is associated with the SBC...but I would not consider our church to be "baptist" per se (I was born and raised SBC). We have a plurality of elders, and are elder led. We don't have deacons, small groups and missions are the backbone of our church, and the congregation votes on absolutely nothing.

SBC. State affiliated with the SBTC, although I'm about to move to a BGCT church. Oh well, guess no one's perfect!

By the way, you do know your signature (avatar?) contains the wording commonly found within a Presbyterian denomination??

SBTC = Southern Baptists of Texas Conference
BGCT = Baptist General Convention of Texas

Whether my signature is "pres-B-Y-terian" or not doesn't matter to me... the quote is still true, and I'm trying to like more like it. There's too many things in our churches that we fight and gripe about that don't really matter.

I agree. Too much majoring on the minors.

This is the commonly used wording of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (www.epc.org) - a smaller, more conservative denomination compared to the larger PCUSA.

Any church that doesn't try to drag kingdom gospel into the gospel given us through the apostle Paul.
