Greetings my fellow Christian brethen. As my first topic for discussion, I would like to present the following short article by Rev. C. Verey (Ret.). He has been fighting the forces of Satan and godless secular humanism at the National Education Association (NEA). I wholeheartedly commend this article to your for your attention and welcome any suggestions you might have to accomplish what it proposes.

Yes, but I haven't heard a word yet from him on how evil it is to go to county fairs. Until he addresses this all important and all encompassing issue I just can't in good conscience listen to another word he says.

What will save our schools will be secure, adequate funding that isn't subject to the vagaries of the electorate so that we can afford quality teachers and reasonable class sizes - together with the authority to exercise reasonable discipline in the classroom.

You say this is a saved person? Maybe so but wow I would say a very bitter one. Also one who thinks that he only knows the way. Would also say he needs to go back and read his history and Bible some more.

"The United States was colonized BY Puritan Christians, FOR Puritan Christians..."

Uhm what about Georgia....believe it was colonized by those let out of prison? Yes the Puritan did come to colonize but they were not the writers of the Constitution and where not the only colonists.

"We need to bring back mandatory CHRISTIAN prayer and Bible study into our public schools."

Ok, to this I would agree to a certain point. But first....which Bible? KJV1611? NIV?...you can list them. Ok, who will do the prayer? The Methodist this week then the Southern Baptist then the Independent Baptist? Now if we are talking personal prayer time I am all for that, but I prayer led by another, nah dont think so.

"We need to bring back DRESS CODES which teach men to act and dress like MEN and women to act and dress like LADIES. That means, dark slacks, white shirts, ties and jackets for the boys and dresses for the girls."

I take it that he gets to determine what is the correct way for others to dress?

"We need to bring back CORPORAL PUNISHMENT and allow teachers and principals to discipline students AS THEY SEE FIT,"

Think about that for a moment. Ok, are you willing to let someone you do not know discipline your child?...as he says "as they see fit".?

"We need to end ALL welfare and ALL social handouts." Coupled with "quit looking to the government and churches for handouts."

Wow must have skipped Luke chapter 10? Or maybe he just forgot about all the references in the Bible to charity...that when defined is love?

What will help? Well I good start would be to stop listening to people like this. Then add some local oversight and proper funding and parental involvement and you might be onto something

I have seen alot about schools in America suffering form instances where students bring in firearms and kill other students. Colombine High School is an example here.

School is obviously a dangerous place to be.

Yet as I see it what is happening is a reflection of society in the community. People are scared and guns are freely avialable. Hatred is there as well and hatred leads to murder.

One solution that I have is that maybe the churches should do more in schooling children. No doubt there are Private Schools in America as well as in Australia. Maybe we could try and make private church schooling affordable to the community and in doing so set the relgious standards as stated in the Bible.

Homeschooling is growing in popularity, what if we shared the load between families and had "micro-schools" within churches in the homes of the members?

Maybe some kids would get a family environment that they do not get at home.

For those who haven't noticed, this 'article' BrotherNicea posted is a clear example of satire.
It originated on a parody of a Christian messageboard.
I've got a link to it, but I suspect the mods won't be amused if I post it.

    Brother Nicea,

    I agree with your article.

My daughter is currently doing a research paper for a college class on separation of church and state, and the pledge, namely the phrase "under God" and it's place in the public schools.

If we, as a country would take back what this country has practiced in the past, the problems we face now wouldn't be there. These different religious beliefs came here because the laws based on christian and biblical belief have given us a nation unlike any other. Our country wouldn't have the freedom it does if it were based on any other religious belief, hence as other nation are. Those people leave their countries and by choice come to ours. And because of the freedoms they have here, they are now expecting us to change to fit their beliefs. They expect us to change our laws to fit their religious belifs. If we continue to change the biblical based laws, we will have nations as the rest of the world, with the loss of our original intent.

We need to get rid of this cockamamie idea of "separation of church and state".
Oh dear. It's a Baptist Distinctive. I guess we'll all have to leave  .

The United States was colonized BY Puritan Christians, FOR Puritan Christians -- NOT Catholics, NOT Jews, NOT Muslims, NOT Hindus, NOT Witches and Satanists.
We'll definitely have to leave, since Baptists are NOT Puritans and even disagree with some of the Puritan beliefs.

What's interesting is that this hyperfundamentalist wacko neglects to mention that the Dutch Reformed church predated the Puritans by several years, and that the Catholics predated them both. He also forgets that the existing Native American religions predated ALL of them.

Okay, that said, the article above is clearly satire, but not everyone here will be aware of that.

Don't make me post the link OliveBranch. :D

" the laws based on christian and biblical belief have given us a nation unlike any other."
 Countries who can make the same claim Olivebranch uses for the USA. That would be: Freedom + Fundamentalist Christianity shaping the laws.
At least 2 Switzerland and The Netherlands and the list can probably be extended a little.

I don't think Rev. C. Verey is a real person! A quick internet search indicates it might be the pseudonym of a mystic who wrote about 100 years ago. Maybe the person who originally had the reference just picked the name out!

You have given a good point. What happened to those countries?

Ours can still be helped, but as the children are taken away from christian beliefs, and fed that whatever you do is ok for you, then we can see this country not very far away from the demise of those two examples.

Do you have a better solution for this country? Or do you think that everything is going just fine?

Yes. Let's forget about liberty and send everyone else but us back to their own country so they can rot there without the Gospel and all go straight to Hell...

    2) We need to bring back mandatory CHRISTIAN prayer and Bible study into our public schools. Students ought to be REQUIRED to MEMORIZE the creation story from Genesis; the story of Noah and the Flood; the story of the Tower of Babel; the story of Abraham and his son; the story of Sodom and Gomorrah; the plagues God sent to the Pharaoh and the Exodus; the TEN COMMANDMENTS; the portions of Isaiah which foretell the coming of JESUS CHRIST; the birth of Christ as told in Matthew and Luke; the Sermon on the Mount; Jesus Passion, Death, and Resurrection from ALL FOUR GOSPELS; ALL of 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy; and the Book of Revelation. </font>
Yes. We must bring back the Crusades and force faith upon the faithless. We must force people to recite prayers they don't really beleive or mean. After all, we don't have enough faith in God to save them. I am sure I saw Jesus or the early Church try this method somewhere, right?

WHY do we have rampant homosexuality? Because people do not read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and TAKE IT TO HEART that GOD DESTROYED THOSE CITIES BECAUSE OF THEIR HOMOSEXUAL PERVERSION AND WICKEDNESS. Because people don't read ROMANS 1 so they know that GOD HATES HOMOSEXUALS and GOD HAS GIVEN THEM UP TO THEIR VILE AFFECTIONS. Because people don't read 1 Corinthians 6 and Galatians 5 and know that HOMOSEXUALS DO NOT GO TO HEAVEN.
Phelps, is that you? [IMG]

    3) We need to bring back DRESS CODES which teach men to act and dress like MEN and women to act and dress like LADIES. That means, dark slacks, white shirts, ties and jackets for the boys and dresses for the girls.
I somewhat agree here. Actually, I would take it a step further and demand that all men wear Jewish robes with prayer shawl as most people during Biblical times did. Women should not wear dresses, they are evil. That shows way too much. They should all wear Burkas and walk at least 10 feet behind their men with their heads hung low at all times...

    4) We need to bring back CORPORAL PUNISHMENT and allow teachers and principals to discipline students AS THEY SEE FIT, without fear of recrimination and lawsuits.
Yes, I agree. Teachers should definitely be able to beat the kids black and blue and should perhaps, go back to the law of the Old Testament and stone those who are disobedient to their parents.[/QB]
All of this "attention deficit disorder" is a bunch of cockamamie BS.
BS: I wonder what Christian theological term this is short for. Do Fine upstanding Christian men generally use "BS" in their everyday conversations? Perhaps, I need to repent of not swearing enough and should do it more in front of my son so he can become a fine, upstanding Christian man, like your friend?

If students are going to misbehave, they need suffer the consequences for it or risk spending an ETERNITY IN HELL!
Kill em all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5) We need to end ALL welfare and ALL social handouts. People who are poor are that way because they've CHOSEN to be poor. Women who breed illegitimate children like roaches are that way because of their FORNICATI0N. People who have diseases need to learn to bear their suffering as part of GOD'S INTENDED WILL FOR THEM, and quit looking to the government and churches for handouts.
I am guessing the parable of the Sheep and the Goats has no meaning for you and the Church itself has no responsibility to help the needy?

YOU want to know what will save our public schools. Well, this is a START.
I am guessing that accountability from administrators won't do a thing for our school. I am surprised you didn't suggest that my people be made to wear a Star of David on our sleeves.

    Rev C Verey (Retired)
That is good news.

Good critique Joseph. Even if it's a parody, it still deserves ridicule.

Mioque, post the link for those who would actually take this garbage seriously. If you believe that nonChristians are guests in the U.S. or that people choose to be poor, then you really do need help.

There is nothing that will save our public school system.

For it has to start at the top!

If, we are looking at this from human prospective, it must start at the top.

We have to vote ultra conservatives in and make sure they do their conservative best.

If we are looking at this from a Christian prospective, then we must plead with God, for His intervention and hand upon our leaders and the people teaching our children.

And then we need to get involved with politics on a personal basis!

This is the moment where sensible people point out to you that conservative political ideology and Christian political ideology are not the same. There are strong similarities, but they are not the same

"You have given a good point. What happened to those countries?"
The Swiss seem to be doing slightly better than the US at the moment, the Dutch slightly worse.

    "Ours can still be helped,"
" we can see this country not very far away from the demise of those two examples. "
It always amazes me how defeatist some folks get when it is not happening in their backyard.

"Do you have a better solution for this country?"
Better than seriously implementing a piece of satire?

Getting back to the question,,What will save our schools?, Getting back to teaching the fundamentals of education; reading, writing and arithmetic would be a good start.

    Cheers,

Agreed Jim! I also wonder if the goverment will 'wake up' and attempt to make some changes when as the numbers of home schooled and private schooled children continues to rise?
