Not necessarily. We've had born again presidents before. Wasn't Bush one? This does not mean the nation following a man who follows God will follow God.

And it does not mean that they will not.

I pray for the president-elect, his family, and his cabinet, to be successful, as deemed by Almighty God, for human government.

I'd be tempted to pray, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do..." (the last several presidents could've applied there)

    I agree w/TC above.

What a great idea for a thread! I really think this is great!

When I do pray on inaguration day...though in a less auspicious place...I'll pray for:

    Providence
    Protection
    Perseverance
    Prudence
    Perspicacity

lol...okay the last one I had to use a thesaurus to get. And I'm Baptist, i.e. the aliteration nation going on. :D

What makes you think I'm ignoring it?

I think you have a good mix here...

I've been thinking on this subject and would probably go with no agenda and let the Lord lead me to his throne of grace. I would then open my heart and speak to the Lord on behalf of this nation and it's new leader trusting the Lord would hear our prayer and move on our behalf.

As Bible-based believers, we have to believe God is in it all.

Franklin Graham was asked for his views and advice on Rick Warren's prayer:

What a poop head! No one is concerned that Warren wants to pray for Obama. The problem is that there is too much a kindred spirit between him and Obama. That's why he was invited. In fact, the only differences I've heard being cited by the press are their views on homosexuality* and abortion—both issues that Warren cannot influence, and that move ahead despite him. But on issues that Obama will use to increase his power and abate our freedoms, he is in complete agreement.

And, BTW, the answer to the question is "Yes."

*Warren has said that he believes "civil unions" should be recognized.

What is the difference between a civil union and a marriage? The church? Can a person who is in a civil union get married to another person at the same time, or is it a one on one relationship like marriage?

In my view it's an important distinction which preserves the sanctity of marriage. I would like to see marriage specifically defined as one man and one woman. Civil unions will give others the same legal rights but not the designation. In this sense Rick Warren was right. Civil unions may one day evolve into a man and a ape or a woman and her dog (I used extremes on purpose) but the institution of marriage will be immune from such idiocy.

See? No difference except in the name. Call it what you want, if you give it the same rights and privileges of a marriage, then you're saying it's a marriage.

At this point it seems the best solution or the place to draw the last line of defense. G@y couples are a reality we can't ignore. I don't want to see marriage defined as man and man just like I don't think their struggle is the same "civil rights" discrimination as blacks and poor whites had in the 60's.

A few years back I preach a message on Sodom and Gomorrah and ended up loosing a good musician which I had no idea was g@Y (not saying it would have changed the message if I had of known). We can be passive and not draw a line but I believe that's how we ended up with partial birth abortions.

Where does the statement about Obama hating his country come from? I'm sure you can back that up, right?
