Venus and Jupiter in conjunction is what's up. Look to the west at sunset. It's pretty neat.

The moon is always facing the earth, so why is it sometimes revealed as a full circle and at other times as a crescent with its tips point away from the horizon, and at still other times a crescent with its tips pointing somewhat toward the horizon?

We can see the moon because sunlight is reflecting off of it.

As the moon revolves around the earth, the angle at which the sunlight reflects from the moon changes, giving the appearances you have mentioned.

The cycle is consistent. You can make calendars by it. The cycles last about 28 days and repeat.

    peace to you
