Has anyone ever heard of the mini-series A.D.? I remember seeing this as a kid and liking it. If I remember correctly, the storyline revolved around Gladiators during and after the time of Jesus, but also involved a lot of Biblical characters, like Paul.

My favorites are Contact, Jesus of Nazareth (makes me cry buckets) and the Ten Commandments when I can catch it on TV. I also like the TV series the Road to Avonlea. It takes place in the early 1900's and there are at least a few references to God. And there is no violence or other bad stuff. Hard to find these days. [IMG]

I find it interesting that no one mentioned Godspell, The Ride, A Vow to Keep, or a current movie that is very imspirational, Joshua. I mentioned this last one on another thread here. Good movie, check it out when and where you can find it.

David, I liked Godspell but my favorite is "Tender Mercies" with Robert Duvall, who, I'm happy to say, is a born again Christian.

Has anyone seen " A Walk To Remember" that just came out on DVD recently? Very good movie about a preacher's daughter who wont give in to peer pressure. Very good!

I didn't realize Dreamcoat and JC Superstar were movies. I have seen the plays for both, and enjoyed both, but tremendously enjoyed dreamcoat.

Saggy: Donnie Osmond starred as Joseph in "Dreamcoat." A pretty good production.

I did NOT like the movie version of "SuperStar." I had a London soundtrack from the stage production and was disappointed by the movie music.

JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings Christianity stems probably first of all from the fact that he and CS Lewis were friends and both are Christians. As far as his Christianity showing off in the movie, I noticed that there are 10 rings (10 tribes?) there is also a scene that is much like the crossing of the Red Sea. I'd be interested in if anyone can find out any specific connections.

"The Ten Commandments", and "The Robe"
I thought "Lord Of The Rings" was really good. Is it decided what category it is?

    Mackintosh & T.J.
    with Roy Rogers, 1974

I watched this movie at a time when I was under conviction and seeking to be saved.
Roy Ragers acts as a ranch worker who takes care of a teenager who just got released from prison. Roy Rogers then becomes a role model for the youngster. The movie shows Roy reading the Bible every night (unusual for Hollywood) and discussing it with the youngster. While the other ranch workers are partaking in sinful lifestyles each night Roy and the boy stay in their room and resist the temptations of those other guys. That movie encouraged me to get more into the Bible and apply it in my life.

I have seen very few movies: the church I once
belonged to had a rule against going to
theaters. When I left it, my son talked me into
going to see "Prince of Eegypt," the first movie
I ever saw since the period when Elvis did "G.I.
Blues"! I loved it. I hate comics usually, but I
    Loved It!

My other favorite is "A man Called Peter."

Now, I saw "The Apostle" on video, but I HATED
it! What did I miss? What was good about it?
I have known too many people and have visited
tooo many churches like the one represented,
perhaps, and I was unimpressed as a result. I
    simply hated the movie.

I see you like "The Robe." Have you read the book? It's much better than the movie. [IMG]

"The Ride" is the best of World Wide Pictures movies (Billy Graham) It is really good.
I am not sure if it qualifies in this catagory, but I recently saw the movie "Signs" with Mel Gibson and loved it.

Definitely "King David" (the Richard Gere version).

My favorite scene is when David is confronted by the prophet Nathan about him having Uriah killed so that David could have Bathsheba for his own. In the movie, as Nathan speaks (the "thou art the man" speech) to David, David slowly slides off of his throne to the floor and lays there face towards the floor, hands on the back of his head, crying for the Lord's mercy.

Besides feeling like that myself most of the time when thinking of myself in relation to my Lord, it sure was good to see Gere so humble and convicted (even if he was only acting). Too bad it didn't sink in ... Gere has done so much trash in Hollywood, and has the intelligence of a gnat when it comes to deciding WHO GOD IS.

    Loved the movie, though!

I have not read the book. I did not know that there was a book. I will have to check that out. Do you have the authors name?
