Perhaps you felt the urge to retaliate. Maybe you took no action, but instead harbored bitterness in your heart. If so, you failed to realize that you do great damage to yourself when you have an unforgiving spirit. Failure to forgive is... read more...

No. I will pray for them because you cannot hold a grudge against a person you are praying for and I try to do something physical for them, i.e. bake them a cake and deliver it to them, etc.

I also ask God to bless them. If they refuse the blessing, it comes back to me! :)

    Sue,

Prayer and a cake, now that is a great way to heap coals of fire on the head of your enemies. What do you do for your friends? I could use a prayer and a new car.

You guys are so silly.

    That's enough of that, Tim!

My friends don't get cakes if they hurt me, I just smack them.

This is a true story and it happened to me...right after I got saved.

A couple in my church started some mean rumors about me and I was so hurt. I was still naive enough to think that Christians didn't do things like that!

Anyway, I called my pastor and asked him what I should do and he told me to bake them a cake and deliver it to them. I told my husband and he said, "I'll deliver it to them all right!" LOL

Anyway, as bad as I felt about hurting, I felt even worse about having to bake them a cake! But I did and when I delivered it to them, they were speechless.

I never had any problems with them after that. I have used that over the years with different people and it always has the same good result.

Frankly guys, the gesture may be perfectly innocent and sweet, but I don't think I could eat food that was unexpectedly given to me from someone that was mad at me. Too many thoughts and suspicions would be running through my head, and it would probably make me feel bad that I would throw it away, but I just couldn't eat it. Now, any other little present would probably be appreciated.

Nope, no retaliation. God does a much better job than I ever could, although I did have a pretty major incident in which I had to be on tranquilizers in order not to relatiate. She messed with my kids heads and hearts like they were toys, and I wasn't quite rational!

However, retaliation just isn't usually a thought. Even if justice doesn't happen on earth, all will be made right in the end. Why fight against an idiot when God said he'd do it for me?

I understand we are talking about here a friend hurts a friend...

let's make it to another level...

How about if someone really did made really bad things to you which involved police because it is a criminal act, how would you respond to the situation?

I mean really BAD things... a criminal act (robbery, rape, public misconduct, adultery, car wrecked, etc)...

Will you forgive the person(s)? read the article

A few years back, an Anglican minister in Calgary forgave publicly the lad who shot his son to death. This public confession of forgiveness had a tremendous impact across our nation.

Just recently, a Baptist minister did the same to the man who raped and killed his daughter, in western Canada.

I would hope that I could do the same thing. I think it is the biblical thing to do, but I am not sure how I would respond emotionally.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I remember these horrific incidents very well. People just could not figure out how it was possible to 'forgive' those who had committed such terrible atrocities and yet, the dignity, grace and loving compassion shown by the families has had an astonishing effect - especially with non-believers. As a believer, I never felt more proud to be associated with a fellow Christian. I remember thinking then as I still do now, 'What an incredible witness to the world and genuine tribute to our loving Heavenly Father!'

I think, many of the victims may not be able to think to retaliate immediately perhaps not at all... many of them has been enslave of FEAR... and they become paranoid...

Fear has now power over those victims... victims of unexpected crimes happened in the Church, School, Offices, Communities...

to know how to defuse FEAR click here

I don't believe fear is always a bad emotion. Any person who went to war experienced fear. I saw it firsthand through three years of combat in Korea. It is soon overcome by reality and we got on with the job. Fear, however, kept us alert in dangerous situations. I know the Bible says, "Fear not..." but that is a tough order with 1000 bullets flying over your head and bombs exploding all around you.

    Cheers,

    Jim

This reminds me of a joke I read in a book of Scottish jokes which my parents bought when they went to Scotland a while back.
