If the people you work with were constantly taking the Lord's name in vain, what (if anything) would you say to them?

    Nothing.

The refinement of a pig does not make him a better sheep.

Their language is only one of their many problems in a lost state. It would be like complaining to a lost person that they have a sinful nature or that they do not love God with all of their heart or they do not love the neighbor as themselves.

Of COURSE they don't -- they are after all LOST.

So the better question is - what doors of opportunity is God opening to witness? Is it on the subject of gay rights? Creation vs Evolution? Health? Mercy, crime? Raising Children? Finding rest after a long week of work and burn-out? The answer to life after death? The truth about aliens? The truth about Angels? The truth about Islam? When is the end of the world?

    What doors is God opening?

Paul said in Col 4:3 "Pray for us for a door for the Word..."

    In Christ,

    Bob

But why write, "RE: When they say GD "

What is "GD"? Isn't it blasphemous talk already?

EVERYONE at my job has this specific problem.

It's funny though, when I read the Bible on my lunch break, they tend not to say it. They all ask me if I'm finished yet, or what I'm reading about.

Great oppurtunity to witness a bit.

    Soli Deo Gloria,

I do "Pray for us that God will open a DOOR for the Word" Col 4:4 -

God is drawing "All mankind" and is "Convicting the World of sin and righteousness and judgment" so when we meet the lost we KNOW that God is convicting and drawing them -- we just don't know on WHAT POINT they are being convicted or drawn.

For example - meet a native in the jungle - they are probably not being "convicted on the point of the Trinity" nor are they being convicted on "the millennium". So it is going to be "something else" maybe not eating humans, rats, cats, dogs, bats.

Oh, I didn't know you were a Christian.

    I'm not.

But I just heard you talking to God.

    (This usually brings an apology.)

BTW, His last name doesn't start with a D.

Sorry, I thought it was clear.

It is a typical conversation I have when someone takes the name of the Lord in vain.

I still don't get it. How can you say you're not a Christian and say this too?

Sadly a lot of folks use the Lords name in vain in a thoughtless and habitual way.

When challenged they can look at you if you are crazy....or take it on board and try not to continue on in the manner.:praying:

A Christian friend who had the desire to read her Bible on her break was visciously villified......I have since discovered there lots of Christians at work but are quite circumspect about it due to the mockery that goes with being discovered........

    Gerhard,

Here it what I Am Blessed means by her post...

She hears someone saying God D*** it, and then SHE says...

"Oh, I didnt know you where a christian"

    They say...

    "I'm not"

    She says...

"But I just heard you talking to God"

    They apologize.

    She says...

"btw, His last name doesn't start with a D"

    Now do you see?

    God bless,

    Mike

It's not blasphemy, just an expression from a feeble mind. ie:

Profanity, is the attempt by a feeble mind to express itself forcefully.

G-D AND J-C are two curses which I take great offence to.
I usually ask them politely not to do it since I love God and would rather not hear His name used that way. They usually apologize right away and try to refrain from doing it again. When they inevitably do it again all it takes is a look (often not even that much) and they apologize again. I usually say, "Don't apologize to me. He is the one you offended". This gets a sheepish smile coupled with "Sorry".

When they use J-C I ask them why they use His name like that. They always say they don't know. They just do it. I then ask if they have ever thought about WHY people use His name instead of Hitler or Stalin or Ceasar? They admit they don't know. I then tell them it is because there is POWER in that name and no other. Without fail they often admit that that makes sense to them. By then I have a willing listener to the gospel. I try to carry on this exchange in a manner that is not condemning or self righteous. It works. I have NEVER encountered someone reacting in a hostile way when I use this apporach.

I don't get many converts this way but I do get to share my testimony and a willing listener for future conversations. They usually have many questions about God and the Bible when I show them how much His name means to me and what He has done for me. If nothing else, seeds are planted and often watered. I then let God give the increase to whomever He will.

Thanks Mike! My mother used to excel in shorthand (nowadays a forgotten art) -- her son did not inherit the same abilities.
