Salvation/regeneration did not exist under the Old Covenant. Hebrews 10 is clear on the matter. In fact, study the entire book. The overall message is that perfection(salvation) did not come under the Old Law. Salvation comes through the shed blood of Christ, and could not come until our sins could be remitted.
Abraham was not saved until Christ was sacrificed. When you read Hebrews 11, read the last two verses. The patriarchs were full of faith, but not unto salvation. That is the point of the passage. They had faith, but not saving faith. It is the faith of Jesus that saves us, not our own faith alone & apart from His finished work. Why do you think they went to Paradise instead of directly to Heaven? They had not received the imputed righteousness of Christ.
And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
    (Heb 11:39-40)
Why is it so hard to accept such clear Biblical teachings? God says that they received not the promise. I'll believe His word over man's.

    No one is "saved" yet.

Eph 1:13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Eph 1:14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

1Pe 1:5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

What we have is the sure promise of our future redemption.

jesus calling of His 12 Apostles was to be seen as symbolic "type" of isreal now being represented into the coming Age of Grace...

he did "start" to gather His flock to Himself in the Gospels, but actual Body of Christ was started when HS descended and started to "baptise" Christians into Jesus at conversion point...

Interesting that since Acts is a transistion book, could be that Epistles themselves record 'actual Church" as we see it today as a NT Church!

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. (Job 1:6-7)

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (Rev 12:10-11)

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (Heb 9:24-28)

Salvation came by the blood of the Lamb. Not by the blood of bulls & goats under the Law, only by the blood of Christ after it was offered at the true holy of holies. When did this happen? Hmmmmmm Why do men reject the plain text of Scripture for a doctrine of their own choosing? :BangHead:

Could Apostle Paul be addressing this contrast between OT/NT when he states taht God "forbaded/passed over" sins committed in the past, the sacrifices were but a shadow/type pointing to Messiah to come?

that OT believers were 'saved" but not in same sense we now are, as they had to wait for Messiah to come, we now have HS in us , and have immediate access to God here, and go there to be with Jesus immediatly after death ?

Are you asking a question or stating your belief? Hebrews is very clear on the point that they did not receive the promise. If they received salvation, of any sort, before Christ's sacrifice, then upon what was their salvation based? How does your theology fit with the book of Hebrews? I have given numerous passages to support my beliefs. Upon what do you base the view that salvation was available to man apart from the finished work of Christ?

ALL salvation is due to the Cross of Christ, and His resurrection/ascension !
OT believers saved by Jesus Act just as noew are, but were under different way , as we have now the HS indwelling us, and we have immediate access to God now...

They had a "limited" salvation in sense now full as we now have with giving of HS to seal and indwell us today...

So, when God says they received not the promise, you think He really means that they received a part of the promise? That makes no sense. There is no partial salvation in Scripture. I could go so far as to say that they were preserved from judgment until His sacrifice, but not that they attained salvation in a different manner apart from us. Please read the following passage closely & explain exactly where the Word teaches a partial salvation apart from Christ.

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. (Heb 11:39-40)

    NO

Saying here that God freely forgave the OT believers SAME way as us today...

Through the messiah death on Cross and atoning for their sins..
They placed faith in what they knew of God, and God "credited" that tot them...

They were "saved" but did NOT have fullness of the salvation we now have, as As Jesus now did His work, HS has come, and we havee what they could not hope to have

Indwelling HS and immediate full time access to God!

    For which?

    For OT
"Romans 4:3 God "credited" Abraham for trusting in promises made to him by God...

Hebrews makes it clear OT sacrifices blood saved NO ONE but type of Messiah lamb of God to come, so they were saved by grace of God, by trusting in what they knew at that time

NO Holy Spirit indwelling in OT as in NT
And OT believers did not go right to God at death, had "holding pen" until messiah came and took them back with Him to heaven!

So now ALL have same way with God, through Jesus !
