Interestingly. I read a book (10-15 yrs ago) that says that The history of Spain would say no, but I kinda think that he did

wasn't Spain where the Christians made their last stand, and barely were able to defeat and turn Islam away from owning all of Europe?

    Ok. Sorry

    Back now

Battle of Tours. Charles Martel led Xians. Aka Charles the Hammer ( not Greg the hammer Valentine, he was a wrestler).

He had some great trickery and deceit in that battle

It's no longer "politically correct" since muslims are now (by the leftist elite) NOT evil or warlike or slave-traders or hateful of women and are (by Obama) the real founders of America and our nation.

School teachers must toe-the-line and reality/history means nothing. [sad]

Tours is in the Loire region of France about 100 miles s/w of Paris, a long way from Spain. :)
THAT is how far Islam advanced in domination of western Europe until Charles Martel led his armed/armored infantry in slaughter of unarmored cavalry.

Nearly 1000 years later Islam advanced thru the Balkan (old Ottoman Empire) all the way to Vienna in eastern Europe
Again, providentially God gave great victory to Polish Christian army that came to the rescue and saved the "east"

Joy of being both a pastor for 50 years AND a college professor :)

When I travelled in the old USSR and Eastern Europe with University of Wisconsin, we had seminars on "why" the religious conflicts in Balkans (this was years before the Sarajevo Olympics and decades before the wars). Piqued my interest in studying the Ottoman Empire, WWI conflicts and worked back to Moslem invasion and siege of Vienna (1683).

For over a year now we have been traipsing all through Eastern Europe and Western Asia (Georgia, Armenia) and have been to a lot of the areas of conflict and focuses of attention. I love history (taught it in HS and Jr H) and also wanted to keep learning about the regional history. Like you I started working back to earlier events. Studying history, I guess, is like digging up sassafrass roots. You pull at a small root and discover deeper, stronger, more complicated roots connected.

That must be a great trip man

I volunteered to go on a mission trip. Had done a ton of research, setting everything up.

About 6 months out, I start contacting them and the chick goes well its an unchurched area, we were just wanting your money not you to go

I was very illusioned w that answer. Very disappointed. It was a couple of areas in the former Yugoslav.

I actually had planned to be gone in country for 6 weeks. Knew the materials I was giing to buy etc, aah but God ....
