    Tyndale,
This is one version of the official unofficial national anthem of Wales:

    Ye Men of Harlech

Upon their soil we never sought them,
Love of conquest hither brought them.
But this lesson we have taught them,
    Cambria ne-er can yield.

There are about four or five versions of this, and I am never certain which one is standard. Prolly Gwyneth can answer this.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Helen, the author of "As the Deer" is Martin Nystrom.

Here's a home page with the tune embedded:

One of my favorite modern songs.

Like most of you, my favorite place to sing is in the truck -- on the highway, mostly. There's a lot of road noise, so I can get a pretty good workout.

When I was a teen-ager I used to sing while mowing the grass and didn't realize how loud I was singing until a deacon said he enjoyed the concert.

It would be easy to say that I sing every where.
That would be a truthful statement. I sing under my breath in public/at work or out loud walking down the street or at home.
My yard is filled with music as I garden. My kitchen when I cook.
Even when I sleep I sing in my dreams. I wake up in the middle of a song.

Worship and music are one and the same to me. I worship my Lord every living moment so it is hard to silence the music.

    All over the place. [IMG]
Usually I have music in the car at all times, sometimes I go for a drive alone just to be able to drive around and sing.
I definitely can't say I've never done it in the grocery store. I wake the kids up singing half the time (on purpose) and half the time put them to sleep singing.
Had a lot of dental work done lately, and I spent about a week not talking at all, and didn't realize how bad it would effect me. My voice still isn't back to normal, it's weird. :( And until everything's done, which is who-knows how long, guess it'll stay weird. Probably getting braces, and have no clue how that'll change things either. The other option was having my jaw broken, and I DEFINITELY wouldn't have been singin' for a long time then!
My kids love music, love to sing. We have a few hymnals, and it's almost daily that we go through it and sing quite a number of songs as part of our nighttime ritual.
It's amazing how it effects your life, to constantly have praise around and in your head! What a blessing!

Thank you! Every place I looked on the net for Katie I kept getting 'author unknown'. God bless.

Charlotte Church does an incredible rendition of this with a men's chorus. The words are in both Welsh and English.

Men of Harlech! in the hollow,
Do you hear like rushing billow,
Wave on wave that surging follow
    Battle's distant sound.
'Tis the tramp of Saxon foemen,
    Saxon spearmen, Saxon bowmen;
Be they knights, or hinds, or yeomen,
    They shall bite the ground!

    Chorus:
    Loose the folds asunder,
    Flag we conquer under!
The placid sky now bright on high
Shall launch its bolts in thunder!
Onward, 'tis the country needs us.
He is bravest, he who leads us!
Honor's self now proudly heeds us,
    Freedom! God! and Right!

    Rocky steep and passes narrow
Flash with spear and flight of arrow.
Who would think of death or sorrow?
    Death is glory now!
    Hurl the reeling horsemen over,
Let the earth dead foemen cover.
Fate of friend, of wife, of love,
    Trembles on a blow!

    Chorus:
    Strands of life are riven!
    Blow for blow is given
In deadly lock or battle shock,
    And mercy shrieks from heaven!
Men of Harlech! young or hoary,
Would you win a name in story?
Strike for home, for life, for glory!
    Freedom! God! and Right!

Can remember family sitting around the piano in the parlor and singing song after song - and told the stories from Wales! Rev. William Rogers married Lady Nan Kinsman, left for Iowa as a missionary pastor, then returned to fight with his regiment in the Boer War. That was a heritage that deserved song.

Then, of course, we would sing other patriotic songs and grand old hymns. THAT time of singing at the piano in my youth is perhaps the greatest time/place of singing in my 54 years!

I sing everywhere except in public.

I would love to have a beautiful voice and sing praises to the Lord in public, but I will sing in private.

We sometimes gather around the piano and have a family sing.

"Men of Harlech" was the end theme for "Zulu," the Michael Caine movie in which the British (mostly the South Wales Borderers, actually) withstood ferocious Zulu assaults and, having won, broke into song. (English, of course, but the thought was there.)

I sing like a frozen cat playing the bagpipes in a blender full of gravel that's being cut in two with a chainsaw.......So bad it even bugs me.

My guitar playing is just slightly more tolerable so I mostly just stick with that [IMG]
