    Look at this link from NASA to see the actual images we have to take to make the "picture" of the Milky Way. (It's kind of like trying to take a picture of your whole house standing in one particular room.)

    Maybe it's because I'm a science buff, but I think these images are pretty cool even thought they are from the flat on side view.
