I memorize the KJV (slightly revised for modern language). I preach from a NKJV. Actually translate all texts myself and use the Griffin Expanded Version (GET Real Bible).

For devotional time this year I am using the ESV and enjoying it. I read through the Bible in about a 2-year time and have used a dozen different English translations over the past two decades.

I'd highly recommend using a different translation for devotions, bringing light and interpretive slant on passages.

Talking of bringing things to light -- my friend (who is going to Italy on a mission trip) was reading Hebrews in the NIV and noticed Paul said -- Those in Italy send their greetings too (Bitsy's translation). She'd read it so many times and had missed that word - Italy! So she had to go run and get her KJV to see if had always been there and she'd just missed it. Sure enough, there it was.

She was really excited. Made me smile!

As an English speaker, I use the KJV. Herself, as a Russian speaker, uses the Russian Synodical Version.

Why "only" , SB ? All of us have preferences , but we refer to several different versions . It's a more full-orbed approach .

BTW, I like to use a translation that differs from the one being preached from . I can follow along well enough . Plus , I can make notes on differences in the two texts to refer back to later .

SouthernBelle ( be grateful that I took the time to spell it out -- otherwise you'd be SB to me ), if you are KJO "always and forever " those adverbs are merely figurative . Do you think people had the idea in the past ( the KJV has been around for only a couple hundred years , not a millennium ) that The Vulgate was always and forever ?

    Which Bible

I use KJV in my sermon notes.

I carry NKJV (Macarthur Study Bible)

I refer to the NASB if I want an accurate modern rendition.

I only use the KJV because of the superiority over modern versions. I use the KJV for preaching, teaching, reading and studying. The KJV is the most accurate translation for English-speaking people available today.
