Music that brings honor and glory to the Lord. Some hymns do that. Some don't. Some contemporary music does that. Some doesn't.

I like a good blend of both. Its amazing how so many flow well together.

You all are missing the point. It's NOT about what we like. It's about what God likes.

    And what does God like?

God could have ANYTHING He wants said or sung to Him in heaven and what does he choose?

Rev.4:8 Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty – the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come." (NLT)

A short phrase repeated over and over. Sounds like contemporary praise and worship to me. Don't get me wrong, I like the hymns. But, I would rather sing what God wants to hear. Not what I want to sing.

The introduction of CCM and shallow worship music is one of the reasons I left my last church, so I'll have to go with "traditional hymns".

Now Playing: Count Basie and Tony Bennett - "Basie and Bennett Swing Again"

Just wondering, could you give an example of the type of "shallow worship music" you're talking about?

I'm not Mike, but here's one:

    Enemy's Camp Medley
Well I went to the enemy's camp and I
Took back what he stole from me
Took back what he stole from me
Took back what he stole from me
Well I went to the enemy's camp and I
Took back what he stole from me
    He's under my feet
    He's under my feet
    He's under my feet
    He's under my feet
    He's under my feet
    He's under my feet
    Satan is under my feet.
    (repeat)
    (repeat)
Look what the Lord has done
Look what the Lord has done
    He healed my body
    He cleansed my mind
He saved me just in time
Oh I'm gonna praise His Name
Each day is just the same
    Come on and praise Him
Look what the Lord has done.

Many examples are available of songs that are less than "deep". Alot of modern worship songs are out there that are shallow, in my opinion. But there are also quite a few good writers, artists, and worship leaders that have good, solid worship stuff. Lumping is wrong no matter what side of the argument you're on.
