In asking this question, "Who is your hero? What qualities make this person so admirable to you?"
I ask that you keep it at the human level. I also ask that you stick with explaining your own hero; not take potshots at others'. (Start a new topic, if you feel someone's hero is dangerous!)
    My heroes include:
    1. Ann & Adoniram Judson; missionaries to Burma. They courageously made a stand against the denomination that sent them (based upon the Bible); knowing they could be stranded in a foreign country without support. Bravely they preached the Gospel in a land where the people were not just mildly indifferent or opposed to Christianity--but vicisouly opposed to Christ, His teachings & His followers! The Judsons' love, godly character and perseverance in Christ stirs me to walk closer to Jesus. The Burmese believers--mostly of the Karen tribe--today are still terribly persecuted under the Buddhist/Communist regime that runs the country.
    2. Gladys Aylward; a British believer who went to China to spread the Gospel. She was consider-ed "too old" by the mission society she
was trying to work with; as well as the fact that she was single. She served the needy in her own country, but felt compelled of the Lord to go to China. As she had no means nor support of man, she worked until she'd saved enough to go--and she went! God used her mightily and she brought the Gospel into parts of China that did not have much light. She also had an orphanage & hospital to minister to the people.
    Your turn!! [IMG]

For very many Catholics, their "hero" is obvious:

    Christ has no body now but yours;
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
    Compassion on this world.
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good.
Yours are the hands with which
    he blesses all the world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

My hero is Saint Edmund Campion, Jesuit priest and martyr at the hands of Cecil's regime under Queen Elizabeth's reign. Campion was well known amongst Elizabethan circles, including Queen Elizabeth herself. He was lauded for his intelligence, wit, and rhetoric, and no one could match him in debate. Edmund gave up what looked like a promising career in academics as an Anglican clergyman to become a Catholic, and he studied at the College at Douai before leaving to Rome to join the Jesuits in their work towards advancing the Catholic Reformation. However, at this time, it was like trading one acadamic pursuit for another. Edmund was doing quite well at a professorship in Prague when he was called to travel to England under disguise with a band of laymen, priests and a bishop to minister to the Catholics who had not forgotten their faith. This Edmund did. He did it so well, traveling about in disguise, that he eluded capture for some time. In the end, Edmund was turned in to the English authorities by a Judas who sat in at Campion's last Mass and left early to report his whereabouts. Campion came to a martyr's death, dying as Jesus did, asking the forgiveness of the very men who were to so cruelly slay him in front of a jeering public.

    Lil Sister,

    My hero is my Mother.

She is the most Godly, and humble woman I know.

I am who I am in Christ today because of her consistency with me growing up, and her constant, stedfast prayer for me!

The qualities in her that I admire the most are these:

-She is totally unselfish, always thinking of others first
-She is honest yet has unbelievable tact
-She is trustworthy, I can tell her anything and know she won't repeat it
-She is not a gossip, and does not allow others to gossip to her
-She is an extremely hard worker, and doesn't ever seem to really ever put the 'lamp' out! [IMG]
-She loves unconditionally, no matter how much others fail her
-She loves God with her whole heart, and teaches others to do so
-She loves my Dad, and has taken care of him for the past 35 years!!

    She is awesome!

    God Bless,
    Kelly

Hollywood star, Roy Rogers and his wife, Dale Evans are very good examples of living Spirit filled lives in a world full of tribulation. They lost their only child to disease and two other adopted children in tragic accidents and yet they stayed close to the Lord and carried their faith to their graves. They gave of themselves, their time and talents to entertain crippled children in institutions across America. They left us with an understanding that God can be worshipped while riding horses in the great outdoors. (Not only in a church setting).

    Their contribution lives on...

    3Angels Mom,
That is really special! A godly mother is a treasure: a friend, an example, and part of the inheritance you can give your children. Praise God!

My wife is my hero. She overcame unbelievable odds that would cripple even some of the strongest of souls growing up. And out of all of it, she is a humble godly woman who quitly serves the Lord.

Brother Adam, That's precious! A man who so admires his wife can't help but be a good husband.
