    I've worn a tie (usually a bow-tie - it takes a real man to wear a bow-tie) on a few occasions. Other than that, I wear either a banded collar or just a good shirt (button up, polo - not a t-shir with writing)

    If I'm going to "wear my best", I do have a tux and tails . . and yes, that is the absurdity of the argument

    I 'll sure sympathize with anyone who's followed your advice. I think you'll find that most are advised to look their best for an interview, even if the job is casual. The reason is that one's manner of dress is a communciation of one's attitude.

    That's the simple fact of the matter, and you know it.

    That's not necessarily the case. It is possible to over-dress for an interview.

    If you don't believe me, show up for an interview in formalwear.

    People don't necessarily look their best in formal wear, but if the manner of dress doesn't communicate, it would be impossible to overdress.

    I would agree that it does communicate attitude, but I don't think we should take this to the extreme.

    There is a difference between dressing sloppily and dressing somewhat casually.

    A big difference in my view is that many of our conventions for attire are rooted in fashions from areas with colder climates. For instance, the suit was developed in Western Europe, which has a much more temperate climate than the U.S.

    Yes. That part of the country is probably closest to the climate of Western Europe.
