I have proof now that ties unchristian...

    History of the Necktie
Regardless of the fact that the definition of the necktie in most dictionaries states "a large band of fabric worn around the neck under the collar and tied in front with the ends hanging down as a decoration", its history says a lot more. Men have always found it necessary to tie something around their necks. The earliest historical example is in ancient Egypt. The rectangular piece of cloth that was tied and hung down till the shoulders was a very important part of an Egyptian’s clothing because it was showing his social status. In China, all the statues around the grave of Emperor Shi Huang Ti bear a piece of cloth around their necks, which is considered an ancestor of the modern necktie. In art from the Roman Empire, men are also depicted bearing neckwear that much resembles the contemporary necktie.

    http://www.shop-usa.info/TIE_HISTORY/tie_history.html

Not only do they come from Egypt.. (which in the Bible represents the World, and sin)

But they were a part of Pagan Rome also...

Brothers and sisters in Christ.. I call upon you now to denounce this evil piece of cloth... a piece of cloth that obviously had sinful beginnings...

And still carries a connotation of divisiveness...
If the earlier church had not adapted this evil piece of material from pagans, we would not be fighting this fight now to rid Christianity from this "tie that binds" us to useless traditions.

It seperates the rich from the poor, they young and the old, the yuppies from the Xers..

Go NOW!! My fellow believers in Christ, and conquer this evil thing!

And don't be fooled by the bowtie.. it is a compromise!

In Iran, neckties are often seen as a symbol of Western oppression.

Ever notice how Ahmadinejad always has a jacket but never a tie?

This is one thing with which I can agree. :)

One could attend my church for years without seeing a tie. I like it that way. One of the reasons I stopped attending church in an earlier part of my life was because I just hated to dress ucomfortably (petty reason I know and I'd like to think I've matured somewhat since.)

Our pastors wear coats & ties. Members wear everything from suits to shorts & deck shoes -- though I am normally in between the two.

I'm sure that part of the dress has to do with where the church is located. We are a "neighborhood" (not "city") church and we are only a 1/2 mile or so to the ocean. All of that plus Miami weather lends itself to a more casual dress.

I was in a church a few weeks back where the preacher was wearing a black hoodie with the name of the local high school on it, jeans and a pair of New Balance running shoes.

The piano player says, "You preaching dressed like that?"

I replied, "No, I was going to change right after the second hymn."

We did have a what to wear to church fuss, though. One feller rode his Arctic Cat snowmobile to church and came in wearing his Arctic Cat riding gear. Now that is just wrong. This is Polaris country and everybody knows it. If we left that Cat feller get away with it...... oh, my!..... what would be next? Ski-Doo folk?

We have a man who just became a member who came to our church for the first time last summer - and came to the Lord! He was biking by (bicycle) and felt drawn to go and ended up standing outside the church. Someone was walking by him to go into church and they asked him if he needed help - and he said that he wanted to go in but he wasn't dressed for church. The man said "No problem! No one is going to look at the way you dress, they'll just be glad you're here!" and he was welcomed wholeheartedly. He continued to bike to church for a few weeks then he started coming in his car - and he accepted Christ about a month after he started attending. As I said, he just became a member.

So even though the senior pastor asks his pastoral staff to dress nicely in a jacket and tie, it's not a "dress code" to come to church. :)

One of our Church's Missionaries to Africa preached Wednesday night.
He told us that shortly after he got there, they had a special Bible class for the Nationals. Out of habit he wore a tie.
A man asked him, "do I have to wear a tie to be a Christian?"
Mr Missionary hasn't worn a tie since.

At least not in Africa, he was wearing a suit and tie Wednesday.

I go to a church that is generally casual. But casual is just not me.
I like to dress up unless I am going to do something at church that would make it proctical to go casual.
I stick out like a sore thumb but clothing is our package.

Years ago in the mid 70's I was attending a church that many were going extremely casual before it was mainstream. I continued to dress up while most everyone elso went casual. I was informed by a woman that told me " at this church you can just come as you are," My response was , "this is the way I are!"
There is no scriptural precidence one way or the other but I believe we should be what we are.

During cold weather months - October til May (give or take) - I do when I'm preaching.

Hot weather months - I do not.

The deacon who preaches the last Sunday of each month - always does when he preaches - but usually not the rest of the time.

I would like to know the sadistic person who invented ties - I would probably give him/her a piece of my mind - that is if I had any left!
