Every magazine with women showing skin publishes under the same rights to express their opinions as any other piece of printed material. Even though I do not agree with their focus, I would probably not indicate in anyway which merchandise they can sell and display in their store. We must witness but must respect others when we witness.

As I look at the picture that you posted, none of the covers look particularly offensive; their just selling artificial beauty and dreams.

I would encourage everyone to talk youth about how Christ can boast their self-esteem permanently while this type of advertising gives them empty esteem.

Are you kidding me? Did you not look at the magazines on the right side of the picture? Have you not read the verse in the Bible that says do not lust? Further, I can certainly tell a store owner of things I approve and disapprove of in thier store...If they have any business sence, they'll listen to thier customers.

If nobody was willing to buy it, nobody would be willing to do these things. The idea that people buying the mags has nothing to do with their production is very naive.

I think a lot of it goes back to Adam and Eve eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

There are some who would say that it's art.
Even if it's not art, many of the great works of art of the Western world are nudes.

What would you do with them?

I disagree with this statement. I think that for the most part, it is pornographic trash and ought to be done away with.

if you're gona protest 7-11 protest my school... you see much worse than that pinned up in 50% of the lockers. I think largely what would be better would be to teach your children not to objectify anyone's body.

Oh and... that's softcore porn? Man I'm a teenager... I thought softcore was something where you didn't have full frontal.

(serious my generation would think of that as the norm... kinda sad but... it wasn't like that for you?)

The pietism of today's evangelicalism would probably not appreciate them. Many see a naked body only in sexual terms.

Evangelicalism has almost developed a dichotomy that the physical is evil and the spiritual is good, not understanding that our relationship with God is not "pie in the sky by and by", but that we are to enjoy this present earth in the here and now, and then enjoy our relationship with God in the new heavens and earth even more fully.

For the record, that is not to say sexual sins or drunkenness, or any sins are to be winked at.

    I disagree with your disagreement.

Here in Philadelphia, we have the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the finest museums in the world and home to the largest collection of works by Rodin, Cezanne, and Wyeth.

There are nudes there and at the National Gallery, which we visited a few weeks ago which are brethtaking and I can't imagine anyone looking at them in any kind of a salacious manner.

I think there's a huge difference in nudity that's designed to arouse and nudity in the course of art.

The problem is, who defines art?

I mean, isn't it just a wee bit hysterical to equate Botticelli to Lou Goldberg?

If you're going to stop shopping 7-11 because of this, why not Wal-Mart, Kroger, Eckerds, and other such stores???

I am disgusted and ashamed to even walk down the magazine sections at Wal-mart for fear of what will enter the minds of my boys (aged 11) and even my three girls.

Even many of the women's magazines have ads for lotions and other body products that feature women who are mostly nude.

Not to metion the topics blaring from the front cover!

I agree, Julia. The problem IS that emptyheaded, wrongheaded, misguided "mentertainment" magazines like Maxim and Blender and whatever else is around these days are EVERYWHERE.

And they are just looked at as "magazines" by most people, not the "smut" that most of them are, in that they pander to baser instincts.

But then again, I can't listen to the secular radio shows, much less tv shows, with my boys for thirty minutes without hearing someone say "mad as H" or "that D idiot" or some "bleeped out" cuss word on a commercial that's supposed to be "cutting edge," but is something 4yr olds DO NOT BENEFIT FROM HEARING. (We've pretty much given up on the tv, and down to just a few radio stations on the playlist! [IMG]

If anyone has ever been helped by one of these magazines, I'd be shocked and amazed. I think for the vast majority of people they are "okay" and "not as bad as Stag or Hustler," as if THAT makes it all right. :(

And it really gets old seeing them at every checkout counter and every magazine rack in every little store.

I think we can and should complain to the owners/management of the stores and stations where we hear such things. But, usually, they see it all as a "money" matter anyway. We have to get them to see it as a "heart" matter, and we can only do that through witnessing to them in the stores and in the other places we'd meet them. [IMG]
