Why would Paul tell Christians not to do sins they are incapable of doing?

He might let me run right out into the street and get smacked by a car to teach me a lesson...to pay closer attention and not grieve his commands.

All the while, pickin me up from my foolishness and nursing me back to good health.

Experience isn't necessarily the best teacher, but it is definitely the most thorough!

If Christians can't sin, then why even preach against sin week after week?

I saw on Fox news earlier a boy was kidnapped at gunpoint this morning while standing at the bus stop with other children. According to some, this man may just be a misguided Christian who succumbed to temptation as he drove by the bustop. I pray this boy is returned home safely and that man receives his just punishment.
I don't believe for one minute he might be a Christian. By their fruits you shall know them.

RE: Why would Paul tell Christians to not sin if they are incapable of doing so?

I have to agree with Brother Bob. We, as humans, sin every day. No getting around it. We are 'BORNED' into it by flesh. With that being said, any BLOOD-BOUGHT christian won't go as far as to lose their salvation.

I know this is not with the original scriptures it this post, BUT you have to take the WHOLE scriptures, not just here and there.....

Matthew 7:24-25 Therefore whosoever hearet these saying sofine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a ROCK: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew; and it fell NOT: for it was founded upon a ROCK.

Matthew 7:26-27 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the SAND: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon the house; and it fell:and GREAT was the FALL of it.

People, it looks like there quite a bit of difference between building something on sand and rock, huh? Anyone want to guess what that ROCK is that Jesus was talking about? Yep, Jesus Christ himself.

    Mark 4:3-8
Hearken; Behold there went out a sower to sow: And it came to pass,as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much root: and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: But when the sun was up, it was scorched: and because it had NO ROOT, it withered away. And some fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and ckokedit, and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on GOOD GROUND, and did YIELD FRUIT that sprang up and increased: and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Which of these seeds represented christians? Which of these didn't have what it takes to be saved. I know that christians won't be perfect, but whenever someone states that a christian can rape, murder, molest children, basically become the children of wrath, this is pretty close to HERESY. They are saying a Child of God can do the things of the devil!! You are either hot or cold....if you are lukewarm, Christ will spew you out His mouth!! Thank you for taking the time in reading this. May God Bless!! John 3:16 :1_grouphug:

    Seeds

Sorry about misrpresent ing the seeds in my previous post. I know the seed is the WORD. I meant to ask which of these grounds represented christians, and which represented the lost people. Sorry about the misquote. I hope I don't offend anyone in my posts, it's just it tears my nerves all to pieces whem I hear someone talk about a FALL FROM GRACE. I just don't believe someone will go far enough to lose their salvation because they have a completely different mindset....pleasing God instead of theirself. May God Bless!!

I'm not for sure I follow you.

Are you saying that some on the news referred to him as a misguided Christian?

    or
are you saying some here might?

I would really love to have all you "can't sin anymore" people in my church.:saint: I am not a betting man, but if I was I bet a dollar bill to a donut hole you all don't live without sinning. In fact my years of experience tells me that some of the most wicked people I ever met were the "we don't have a sin nature" people.

Let me give you :saint: people something to think about. In Mat.14 we read about Peter walking on the water. In the Gospel of Mark and John we read their account of the same story. However there is something missing. Do you know what it is? It's Peter walking on the water. Now why would Mark and John omit that? Do you think for a second there might be a twinge of jealousy there? Maybe the Holy Spirit should have had you people write it.

You people that don't believe a "Christian" can do anything after Salvation that they did before are simply ignorant of Scripture!

Some here say that a Christian is just as capable of committing any vile sin as the unsaved heathen and that they do commit those sins.

A christian can do anyhting they want to, but the "want to's" will be to please God. If a Christian was a drunkard at one time, they won't go back to the bars. If they do, they didn't have it to start with.

Not one person on earth can have "light" and "darkness" at the same time. If they can, please show me scriptures where they can. Thanks!! May God Bless!! John 3:16 :1_grouphug:

Covicted, in case you haven't been following these threads, some people believe that a Christian can and does commit all manner of sin, even child molestation and do it without losing their salvation.

The fact is, Bob, that when one of our children was younger, he did wander into the middle of the street when everybody's back was turned. Thankfull no harm came. Yes, we must be concerned about doing wrong. He was at an age that he knew what he was doing was wrong. But young children like to be adventurous. They like to wander off and "do their own thing," even at a young age. As the song writer put it: we are "prone to wander."

Not quite true. I say that we (or any Christian) are capable of committing any sin. This where I detest people putting words in my mouth. Bob did this at one tome also. I, nor anyone else that I noticed, have ever admitted to committing adultery, nor any other "vile sin" as you may define it. So you may stop with false accusations. I said that any Christian is capable of such. I did not say that we are in the act of doing so. That is slander.
    Amy, that is slander.

Well, if I had seen him running toward the road, if would have snatched him away. I trust my Father to snatch me away from the road of destruction.

    Excellant Point Tim!

I guess Brother Bob does not preach against adultery or murder or lying for that matter since Christians don't need to hear that since they will never do that.

Or maybe he preaches to them that if any of them have reported too many hours on their time sheet they need to come up and get saved because if they were saved they could have never done that.

Man is not perfect. If I had seen him running...
The fact is you didn't, and neither did I.
And even though God is omnipresent and omnipotent he doesn't keep us from all] evil. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if he did. But my family (and friends) have had their share of sickness and sorrows. I have preached at a number of funerals (some of them were the death of children). Life is hard and full of heartache. Don't ever say that God is going to keep you from every evil situation, or you will be in for a big disappointment. The promise given is that he will give you the grace to get through such situations. "My grace is sufficient for you," he promises. You will only be delivered from this wicked world when you reach heaven. We wait for the redemption of our bodies.

Explain that thinking to Job's kids!

The preaching of the Gospel is for the equipping of the saints so that they may carry the Gospel into a dark world and reveal light.

When the Light of God's Word reveals the sin that was covered in darkness, one has no excuse when one chooses to continue to walk in darkness.

That is why Bob, myself, and many more preachers preach against adultery and other sins. Not necessarily because one in the congregation is committing such sins, but because we are equipping those who will carry the Word and witness to the lost.

I was talking about eternal destruction, not sorrows on this earth.
