I just finished Lane's commentary on Mark (NICNT) and I can't say enough about it. It took me four days and in those four days my head was spinning with Mark excitment. I began to forget other gospels even existed! Anyway, that is off the subject, has anybody else had a chance to read this volume? It is very well informed, true to the Word of God, careful and precise, and in most cases very down to earth. I finnally began to understand what the "Kingdom of God" that Jesus preached was near and "how" it was near in the presence of Jesus himself. I also got a better understanding on why Jesus veiled much of his identity for much of his minitry, telling those who were healed not to speak about it, not speaking plaining about him being the Messiah, and what he means by "to them outside I speak in paraboles, . . . less they understand . . .". His general revealing about his dignity to the disciples was well described, and all the all the perfect plan of God to bring about the ransom of many!

    I highly reccommend this commentary.

For the most part, I like the NICNT/NICOT sets. Unfortunately, Eerdmans has no plans to finish the sets before the year 4000. :D Someone in publishing there told me that it could be decades before the set is finished.

I have the Lane volume, though unfortunately I have not had a chance to use it yet. (I originally ordered it for a specific reason, but it arrived too late to be of use to me at that time.)

Thanks for the recommendation. Now you've got me looking forward to maybe just reading the thing.
