Windows repair or Reformat?

    Just to let everyone know...

    I finally got back over to my buddies house last night. I booted the computer from the Windows CD and reformatted it from there.

    Something interesting, though. His computer is a Dell. It has a FAT 16 (or was it 32) partion on it, and the rest is NTFS. I reformatted the NTFS (which is almost the entire disk). I think the FAT section is the boot sector??? Help me out here.

    After reinstalling Windows and all the rest, it seemed to be working fine. Missed his video driver, though.

    Observations on what that FAT section is? Why did Dell set it up that way?

    According to Dell, the NTSF does not allow creation of a bootable removable disk, so the FAT partition contains the boot record.
