TILTON – The Winnisquam Regional School Board has approved offering a new English course, the Bible as Literature.

The elective course will be offered starting in the fall on a trial basis to juniors and seniors, according to Donald Parks, interim superintendent for the Winnisquam Regional School District.

Parks says he was initially opposed to the idea of offering the course until he read the textbook "The Bible and Its Influence" and changed his mind.

"It can be a really good course and I think it's worth a trial run," said Parks.

It sounds like an excellent course as long as it is designed not to denigrate any Christian groups or interpretations of the bible.

Even from a purely secular perspective, the Bible is a wonderful piece of literature that clearly has influence beyond Christian circles. That in itself is worthy of study and may God use this course to draw some of his chosen ones to himself. And may they in their free will choose to read the text on their own time because of the realization of the impact of this powerful book and its divine author.
