Don't like Harry Potter, don't like that gothic garbage. They can only spell trouble.

Have no interest in the Harry Potter or other type of withcraft books. We don't even allow catalogs in our home that contain this stuff. But, I thought you were going somewhere else with this so I will add the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the word witchcraft.

Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I have a book about all the presidents wives. This is a secular book, just facts about these ladies. For Dolly Madison it says, "It is rumored that she wore makeup."

This tells me that back in that time respectable ladies did not wear makeup.

As a Civil War reenactor, I am amazed at how the "women" in movies about that era (ie Cold Mountain) are portrayed.

The excesses in dress and makeup of Napoleonic France was REPULSIVE to American women (north and south). They wore little or no makeup at all - if they did, you could not tell it.

Yet we see the actresses all painted up like 20th century movie stars (duh) wearing proper period attire, saying proper period language, but with faces to appeal to 2004 audiences.

Laughable. Go to a reenactment and look at the ladies in the camp. You won't see Nicole Kidman in the lot.

Dr. Bob, does that make the women who do wear make up satanic and attempting to attract evil?
edited for misspelling Dr. Bob's name

Sue, this is not an attack on your respectability. But, I wonder when respectable ladies began wearing it and why?

So, the reenactors in the plays are more accurate? Thanks for sharing.

    Colossians 2:16-23
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. 20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations-- 21 "Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle," 22 which all concern things which perish with the using--according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

2 Corinthians 7:1, "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

Galatians 6:7-8, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

Galatians 5:24, "And THEY THAT ARE CHRIST'S HAVE CRUCIFIED THE FLESH with the affections and lusts."

Ephesians 2:3, "Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."

Had a dear old friend in ministry who always said, "If the barn needs painting; paint it." Dean Gordon Brown, Central Baptist Seminary, Toronto circ 1957.

    Cheers,

    Jim

PS. I wonder if half the people even know what the word witchcraft means.

Ture, Jim. And just because some cults or pagan groups use make-up or earrings (or tatoos or ____ you fill in the blank) does not mean that they are intrinsically wrong or evil.

Satan has been corrupting the "good" since the beginning. He can take a good thing and misuse it. About time we Christians TOOK IT BACK for God's glory instead of saying that the devil gets it now!

ps - I've seen some pretty run down barns in Wyoming.

The bible teaches us in a couple of places that what satan meant to use for evil God uses for good.

Well, we were all wicked temples until God took hold of us and turned us about for His own glory.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Abraham sent his servent to fnd a wife for Isaac he sent jewlery for her,
Gen. 24:22And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold

47And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands. 48And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter unto his son. 49And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left. 50Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good. 51Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as the LORD hath spoken. 52And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth. 53And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.

Pro 25:12 Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold
Is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear.

Jude 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

The idea isn't to see how close you can get to sin without sining but, to see how far you can get away and not be stupid.
