I prefer to have women and men stay generally behind the pulpit when they preach. It gets distracting if they move around too much or try to preach from the lectern.

First of all, my name is not Al (or did you mean all?)

Secondly, there's a discussion about this already underway:

    http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=001085

Thirdly, I let Scripture speak for me on this issue:

1Ti 2:11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
1Ti 2:12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
1Ti 2:13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
1Ti 2:14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

Fourthly, I also have to respectfully disagree with Joshua about preachers staying behind the pulpit. I like it when they move around a little, it let's me know they're excited! :)

Moving around a little is OK with me. Pacing back and forth gets distracting to me.

    Hello Spiritled,
Have you read what the Bible teaches in this subject?

</font>[/QUOTE]Actually, the topic of preaching styles would make for a pretty interesting discussion in and of itself... I guess the answer would have a lot to do with what makes for an effective public speaker, but I'm sure there are some points of departure. Maybe I'll start a thread...

Unscriptural... Undoctrinal... Unsound... That is what the Bible says!... We know God is not the author of confusion!... But men are and I go by scripture and not society!... Brother Glen [IMG]

    Howdy Granny,
Bro Shawn and company ought to be arriv'n soon. May I help you on something? I have an old habit that is hard to break. I call my study "my office" all the time and it's from all that old corporation stuff we used to be "used" with. I'm trying to break the habit. I'll be praying for ya'll and our men will be meeting for prayer in the morning. Another thot (!) on the pulpit subject is clear when you read Is 3:11-13. Women in a "ruling" position is the clear judgement of God, and some don't have the sence to come out of the rain. Ya'll go ahead and have your women rule over you, just remember God will have His day soon!

That's obviously in dispute. I know you feel your interpretation is right, and I feel mine is right. That difference won't go away in this thread.

Johnv I agree the camps are divided and further discussion will benefit no one as it is an exercise in futility and can bear no fruit!... Brother Glen

As long as yu are researching the topic...
Our church has a few women missionaries. When they are on furlong we encourage reports from them. Sometimes devoting entire church services to their report.
I guess the question is is this teaching or reporting? They are doing this at the bequest of the pastor.

Preaching is when you are proclaiming / teaching the truths of God's Word. Giving a report about what God is doing overseas (or anywhere else for that matter) is just that, a report (unless you want to call it a testimony.

It is true that for some there is no "fruit" in this discussion. It is unfortunate that some want to call the "no female pastors" position a "differing interpretation" instead of receiving it as it is - the teaching of God's Word.

My interpretation = the teaching of God's Word.

Please let your opinions be known, but please don't demand that they are exactly the same as "God's Word". Please have some humility regarding issues where people who believe the Bible differ. :(

    Rev. G.

Why do you bother to ask questions if you believe the answers are so obvious?
