This is absolutely horrible! What some people will do for their children is really something. We must pray for this woman's family!

    ---------------------------
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A woman who competed in a radio station’s contest to see how much water she could drink without going to the bathroom died of water intoxication, the coroner’s office said Saturday.

I've heard the same can happen to infants if you give them too much water. Very sad.

The contest itself was a cruel and crude way for a radio station to entertain the public.

I retired from the VA Medical Center, and we had a patient there who drank big glasses of water all the time and suffered from water intoxication. I've never understood what there is about water to get anyone intoxicated.

Call me cynical, but I for one am of the opinion that 95% of our "entertainment" in America is either cruel, crude, or both.

My cynicism does not negate the fact that I am very sorry for this family. They have my prayers.

My grandmother's baby sister had this problem a few years ago.

She weighs about 120, but she was drinking something like 2 dozen glasses of water a day.

Before that, I didn't realize you could drink too much water.

This is news to me. What is a safe amount of water to drink? You always hear to drink water instead of coke, tea, or coffee all the time.

What do you know? Drinking a certain liquid can can cause death-- defiling the temple of the Holy Spirit. It must be a sin to drink water.

I know. It seems to go against what we've always been taught. I guess it's because hardly anyone drinks the amount of water they should, let alone a massive, deadly amount.

The common thinking now is to divide your weight, in pounds, by 2 and that should be the number of ounces you should try to drink each day.

A person weighing 200lbs should try to drink 100oz of water a day. That is 5-6 individual, regular-size, store-bought plastic bottles worth.

 That was funny. It shows the same logic used by the abstinence crowd, so to remain consistant, they must agree with this premise meaning they won't be able to drink (or eat)anything since water is in everything, and when they die from dehydration / starvation, it will be suicide making them hell bound, since they know they need water to survive, making it "willful" sin and not accidental sin.

Supposedly it's even worse if you're doing strenuous distance exercises such as running a marathon. Apparently your kidneys can stop functioning as they normally do and sometimes even completely shut down and stop taking excess water out of your blood. Couple this with extreme exercise and drinking too much water, and you end up with people dying nearly every year from this at huge events such as the Boston Marathon.

You mean the temperance crowd, I hope.

I think most of us agree with abstinence until marriage.

There was a couple that had a foster kid living with them in this state. They made the girl drink water as a punishment. They say that a theripist recomended the punishment. The girl 6 or 7 years old took cool aid without permision and the parents held here down and made her drink gallons of water. The girl died and the parents were sentenced to prision for abuse this last summer. I will look for the link.

This is a sad story. The parents should have got a harsher sentence.

Meaning she will probably do 6 or 7 years and then a couple years on paroll.
