Wow! If a church has to be that petty, then that church has major issues outside of the woman praying thing and I would be running from that church! I cant beleive how petty some churches get! I go to a church run by a female pastor and not one person judges her or doesnt listen to her because she is a woman. In fact the church keeps growing and growing and we are soon moving into a new building. I believe anything a woman sets her mind to she can do this whole the man rules the woman thing is so outdated.

The Bible is not outdated. God's roles for men and women are not outdated. Either the Bible is correct on everything or nothing.

    Genesis 3:16 (KJV)
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

However, taking it to the level of "women can't pray publicly in church" is going further than Scripture does. Leaving over such an issue....man, I couldn't imagine that.

The problem is that too many men don't rule over his wife as Christ rules over the church, with love in that He gave himself for the church. Too many men rule their wives with an iron fist. Or just quit and leave.

It is time to get rid of the ignorance, lack of grace, and divisive spirit.

Ben Witherington III wrote Conflict and Community in Corinth: A Socio-Rhetorical Commentary on 1 and 2 Corinthians It is a commentary on 1 & 2 Cor. In that book is an ancient picture of a woman praying with her head covered.

Too many are lazy bums at home and exercise no leadership at all. It shows in churches too. They expect their wives to serve them instead of how Jesus taught that the person who will be first must be last. Family violence and spousal abuse is highest in homes like that.

It would be my guess that the deacons are men who do not serve their wives either but rather are more interested in being served.

My wife has prayed from the stage many times in every church we have belonged to. She in no way is a leader, nor would she take that place to be a leader over men. She is a more godly individual than most deacons I have ever met, and a match for the rest.

That someone, anyone, has a problem with someone else, be it man or woman, praying is completely ridiculous and most definitely a jab in God's eye.

I have also see what Donna mentioned, people taking a minute or five to give a "mini-sermon" before they pray... this is stepping over the line of praying in public and into that gray area bordering on assuming a leader's role.

And people are getting upset over it... that's the sad part.

women prayed in the early church assembly (1 Cor 11:5).

The hermeneutical gymnastics have left me unconvinced about the contra view.

Btw, there were no stage in the NT.

I wish I could tell you how much my husband has been a servant to me while I have been in recovery, the way he's taken care of me when I couldn't take care of myself, but then I'd be discussing what I've kept so far in the women's private forum. (It's private!) But he has been more then I could possibly ask for, he is certainly more then I deserve.

I agree with you TC. I see no prohibition against women praying in the church. Praying is not teaching or having any authority over men.

Unless the men think the womens' prayers are answered when theirs are not.
