I was listening to Thru the Bible the other day. Dr Vernon McGee stated that he did not believe in women preaches - BUT! - Dr McGee mention he once recieved a letter from a female missionary in South Americia. She said there were no male missionaries at the station; so she would preach. Dr McGee told her to keep preaching until a man arrived at the mission station.

    Thoughts?

Women should preach the Gospel...they shouldn't be pastors. There is a difference.
Since the mission field is not the local church, I don't see a problem with that.

All believers are to preach the gosple, we call this witnessing... If you were to look up the term "missionary" in the bible you may be surprised to find out that word does not appear in the bible...What is a missionary? A missionary is any and all born-again believers that witness to others about the Gosple of Jesus Christ. Was the female missionary in the five fold ministry? The 5 fold ministry is found in Eph.4.

    "11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; "

Did you notice it said nothing about a "missionary"???

In conclusion, every born-again child of GOD is a missionary to those around them and they are to witness (preach) to those around them. Being a missionary does not mean you are in the 5 fold ministry leadership (as a apostle; prophet; evangelist; pastor; or teacher ) of the church; nor, does it mean a person who preaches is always considered a "PREACHER" (in the 5 fold ministry)!

Was the missionary in the five fold ministry? Maybe, maybe not...

As far as women being in the the five ministry: Can people explain Moses' sister being a "prophetess"?

Even Deborah took control when no one else would. However, I'd have to think on this one...

Or understanding the culture and situation of Ephesus and Corinth, the role of women in the 1st century and following the example Jesus of elevating women to prominent roles within his own ministry.

I say yes, because of scripture, not because I discount it.

Say what? A number of women followed Jesus but I can't remember Jesus choosing (or elevating) anyone other than the 12 men we know as the apostles.

I believe that if God tells a woman she should preach, (or even pastor) she had better do it....

But I also know that because of the way I interpret the Bible, God has never told me to set under a woman's ministry.

Of course my denomination (ABC/USA) recognizes many women pastors...
And if a church so desires one, that church should do what it feels God is instructing it to do.

I have worked with a few women pastors, and plenty of women missionaries. I have some that are personal friends of mine. But I could never attend a church where the senior pastor was a woman.

Youth pastor, maybe... but not the senior pastor.

And don't expect much debate from me on this... as this is something I am not very passionate over.. I see it as church autonomy, and soul liberty...

An autonomous church has the right to hire a woman for Senior pastor.
I have the soul liberty to not attend that church.

I would say that women preachers, teachers, speakers and leaders are fine. But I'm not ready to say that about women pastors. Some people I love and respect believe that they're ok, but I'm not ready to make that statement.

Women can do any job God gives them, just as men can. There is no male or female in Christ Jesus.

Years ago my wife and I were members of a local chruch that was started by two ladies around WW2. We knew one of the ladies. She told us that when the first man became a Chrisitan they taught him and he became the first pastor.
