<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> Dr. Peter Ruckman has been divorced two times and married three times yet he has been a pastor all along, is still a pastor, and he defends his unscriptural marital status in his book on divorce and remarriage. His first marriage was before his salvation, and it ended in 1962 when his wife left him and filed for divorce. He began pastoring the Brent Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida, soon after that. In 1972 Ruckman married the divorced wife of one of his former students. When a vote was taken in Brent Baptist as to whether they supported his second marriage, 200 voted for it and 100 opposed it. He resigned and started the Bible Baptist Church in 1974 with 17 people. In 1988 the second marriage ended when she walked out and sued for divorce. The third marriage was to a member of his church, a mother of three.

I have read Dr. Ruckman's autobiography in which he goes into this situation in some detail. My heart went out to him as I read about the tremendous confusion which existed in his family life for 32 years. I know that the problems were not necessarily something he could have avoided, though he admits his role in the marital strife. Of course he didn't have to take the second marriage, or the third. He claims the first and second marriages were God's (called "the Bookkeeper" throughout his testimony) foreordained judgment on him.

I don't care to doubt that God called Peter Ruckman to preach, and I believe a divorced man can preach and serve God in many ways without being a pastor. But he should not be, and is not qualified to be, a pastor.

I apologize maybe I said that in ignorance. It doesn't matter. There should be no women preachers. It is biblical, unless you are a liberal who believes anyhting you know that a women's place is not in the pulpit. Throught the ages we get more and more and more ****** about this. There is only one bible that is the KJV, there is only one Savior that is Jesus Christ, an unsaved person will go to hell,(which by the way is not a mindset), and the Church is a far cry from it started out as.
Heaven forbid we call ourselves saints We are no more worthy to call ourselves saints than for a Roman Catholic (which is unsaved) to say he is going to heaven. We are a wicked and perverse nation. I am glad God is merciful, I couldn't handle justice,.
I am closing this topic. I feel it should not be reopened for a while. I want both sides of this argument to pray for each other, and study the word, not quote scripture handily prepared for them in a book or tract somewhere, and I will reopen this a while later.
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.AMEN (Revelation 22:21)

    Revelator,

It's a shame you don't have any opinions. [IMG]

As for closing the topic, if you're tired of the discussion, don't listen any more.

I'm still waiting for Thomas to defend his assertions regarding one of the best preachers of the previous century.

    Revelator,
Lets see you begin by apologizing for your ignorance. You then proceed to accuse several other members of misinterpreting scripture, you babbled on about KJVO and questioned the salvation of all Roman Catholics.

Can I just assume that your apology referenced above goes for your most recent post as well.

Let me rephrase that about the Roman Catholics. You read it wrong, an unsaved Roman Catholic, there are Roman Catholics who are saved.
As for accusing you well I still do If you don't then prove it. Study the word and then come back on me.
    And I do have opinions.

Think we might all agree that this topic has gone far afield and I do not think more contributions here will be helpful.

Not holding my breath for apologies, either!

So at the request of Revelator and my own judgment, I am closing this. Any particular new issue brought up in this lengthy discussion may be used to start a new thread.

    Thanks!
