Is anybody into woodburning? If so, what kind of heating tool are you using?

Hi Gib. I'm a wood carver, and I use a wood burner on some of my carvings (especially those I paint) to define detail. The type of wood burner I have is a Colwood. It has two pens attached to the unit, and the tips are interchangeable. It cost about $100. Are you into wood burning wildlife, scenery, or what? In Christ, WT

    Hello Gib,
I have done a bit of pyrography, the tools I have used are from a firm called Janik (based in Rhuthin, North Wales - but trade worldwide ) one is a pyrograph, which has a `pen` with interchangeable heads, used for all kinds of `carving` type work and the other is a `hot wire` tool which is the same kind of thing only has a piece of bent wire, which can be used for writing, for a tip....... nice hobby. I liked to use beech wood which is very white and shows the drawing up very well. I have done quite a few house name signs using this method, and also new baby plaques, with name D.O.B. ETC. and a Bible verse on them. Also `everlasting` greetings cards, some I made years ago for friends still get displayed on the relevant day every year.
    Kind regards, Gwyneth.

Walking sticks. I burn designs into walking sticks and finish with tongue oil or stain. It's a hobby for now, but several have wanted to buy the few I have. Well, no, those are my first ones, but I may be interested in designing for others.

The only time I was heavily into woodburning was when I used wood to heat my house.
