One of the very most important principles that a parent can teach a child is that sin has consequences. The child who is raised to believe that his father will forgive him no matter what whether he repents or not may come to believe that the same is true God and consequently spend eternity in hell.

Verses 17-18, how do these verses reconcile with Peter's experience in Acts 10. (this is kind of off subject and yet not somehow)

17. Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate;
18. and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there. (NASB, 1995 [as also in my post above])

Personally, I find it somewhat difficult to interpret this passage to mean that God was telling Peter to divorce his wife and marry the men who had been sent by Cornelius.

I evidently wasn't clear. What I specifically wished compared Acts 10:15 and 2 Cor 6:17b.(I think I've arrived at an answer here, but I haven't been able to put it to words) And I still don't understand how you can apply verses about idol worship to marriage. I'll reread your post, it may be that I just didn't catch your answer the first time through.

Certainly Christian fathers should emulate the love of their Father in heaven, but they must also emulate the holiness of God.

I agree. But we are not talking about children. We are talking about adults who just happen to be our sons and daughters.
