Writer's Block

    I want to write something in a poetic style, but I can't think of any topic, either fiction or non-fiction. I'm starting to think that the cause of this is a cognitive deficiency rather than writer's block. In other words, I think that for some reason I simply don't have the cognitive ability to come up with themes for content. My opinion is that intellectual atrophy is responsible. Does anyone have advice?

    Spot on JonC!

    No one can burn the fuel in the tank unless they put fuel in the tank. Now refueling can coming from reading, but "observing" nature and behavior, and the observations of others (reading and listening) puts hi test gas in the tank.

    I liked Mr. Sandburg's "free verse" because as Mr. Frost observed, it is like playing tennis with the net down. :)


    The fog comes
    on little cat feet.

    It sits looking
    over harbor and city
    on silent haunches
    and then moves on. ​

    The shroud of truth comes
    as if a comfort blanket

    Blocking the light
    as it conveys darkness

    Resting in the flow
    takes us farther downhill
    Farther from the city of light

    First of all I'm not Guido... Writers block?... Express yourself the good and the bad... Keep a diary... Write things down... When you think it... Ink it!... Or put it on audio... Brainstorm... Seems to me you want to say it perfect... Forget perfect, write to yourself, then please someone else if you desire... Guido above all else!... BE YOU!.. Brother Glen:)

    Nah...we need to keep our poetry honest.

    If Jon had his way
    Some posts would go today
    But the rules he don't make
    These guidelines he wont forsake
    So they stay around for perpetuity
    Members accusing others with impunity
    Jon doesn't moderate posts where he's involved
    He'd rather leave them unresolved
    And naysayers can never provide citations
    Only questionable accusations
