    WSJ, July 31, 2008; Page A4

"Now, one of the bright new stars in the Republican Party has suddenly become tarnished. The state legislature this week voted to hire an independent investigator to see whether Ms. Palin abused her office by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper."

How is posting a news story from a conservative newspaper slinging mud?

    She must address this quickly

She must address this quickly or it could just play out and out and out like a drama that those who are initially excited about her will turn sour.

to Obama's credit he avoided the drama, John Edwards, Bill Clinton.

but she does deserve a chance to introduce herself just as Obama tried but was really savaged on this board.

but she has a thorn she must pull out and it's the independent investigation in Alaska which is inflamed in ethical lapses(Dan Young, Ted Stevens, Murkawaski?)

She must say "I am innocent in this investigation and i will be vindicated" and she must say "listen I am the one trying to clean things up in Alaska" pulling back to her "Wiki" profile as the pragmatic.

No, she is now the VP candidate

No, it is not,she is now the VP candidate

She will be vetted by the major media which comes with the territory of being the VP pick. She needs to address it then freeing her up to get a quick education on foreign policy, she will have to bone up and bone up quickly.

I personally like her, she is a Christian Feminist she has a wonderful family and story, her soundbites about her down syndrome baby are precious and inspiring.

It is okay for people to feel good about her but I feel good about Obama/Biden the stub your toe moment is John McCain with his temper and age, plus more.

Sarah Palin inoculated Barack Obama, Barack Obama inoculated Sarah Palin

    opinion mine

Hey, at least she didn't listen to a racist anti-American preach for 20 years. Whatever it is that is dug up on her, will be minute.

It's a time for women of America and the world to rejoice. And thank you Hillary for putting 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling. :)

The vast majority of Hillary's supporters will vote for Senator Obama, not Senator McCain.

Your side had better hope so or this could turn out to be another Geraldine Ferraro fiasco.

That's not the case. She has only served as Gov. of Alaska for 1 year and before that was Mayor of a town of about 8,500. Obama served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997-2004. He has been a US Senator for 3 years. She was the runner-up in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant in 1984. Does that count?

Obama has a Law degree from Harvard. She has a degree in Journalism from the U of Idaho.

In the world of politics, what's a perfect vice presidential pick? Is it the pick that Obama made: Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and decades of experience in Congress? Or is it Palin, ex-mayor of Wasilla?

McCain would be the oldest President ever elected. If anything happened to him, his VP would carry around the nuclear "football."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And in the debate that McCain will wage with Obama this fall, the question of Obama's "preparedness'' for the presidency will have to be addressed with a certain recognition that McCain has tapped someone who might have to stand in as president who carries a lack of national credentials unseen in a long time.

When Obama was looking at Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia as a possible running mate, Karl Rove, the "architect'' of President Bush's election campaigns, dismissed his experience - a governor for three years and ex-mayor of 103rd largest Richmond.

We're not sure where Wasilla (Pop. 5,550) ranks.

But Palin runs the Alaska National Guard.

If her brother in law threatened her sister then she was right to call for him to be fired. He admitted that he used a stun gun on his 10 year old son.....how sick is that? His is excuse is that "my son wanted me to".

If he is so violence oriented that he would use a stun gun on his 10 year old son then he is too dangerous to be a state trooper, regardless if the accusations of threats against his wife were true or not.

There must be some substance to the story or he wouldnt have been suspended because of it. Even a 5 day suspension is huge in law enforcement, because they protect each other at all costs.

I dont see any problem with asking for the firing of an abusive state trooper.

Yeah, don't you hope. I would venture a vast majority of Hillary's supporters didn't want Obama as president, hence their support of Hillary.

    Besides all of that Ken?

    What is worse?

    Exposing an abusive state trooper?

Or using state troopers to find you women to sleep with, and then forcing them to cover it all up and lie to your wife, like Bill Clinton did?

You have to be kidding. She has been the mayor of a small Alaska town and is in her first term as governor of Alaska. She has no experience on the federal level.

Obama was a state senator and is now a US senator.

Neither had a great deal of experience, but he more than she.

I am not comfortable with her being one heart beat away from being the Commander in Chief.

Gonna be really hard for me to decide who to vote for.

Did all the "leading men" for VP tell McCain, "No, won't run with you?" I'd like to know who refused to run with him.

Most likely, the majority of Hillary supporters will support Obama.

However, McCain doesn't need a majority. He just needs a decent sized minority.
