Wycliffe Bible translators

    Has anyone had any experiences with them? They are offereing a week-long class in North Carolina which has piqued my interest.

    My sister and her husband (Peggy & Dan Agee) have spent their entire adult lives as Wycliffe translators bringing the Bible to speakers (and more recently, readers) of the San Jerónimo dialect of the Mazatec language (in southern Mexico). If anyone is interested, PM me with an email address and I'd be happy to send you their latest newsletter (it's in JPEG format, hence fairly large, but interesting I think; my niece Andrea put it together because her parents were too busy).

    I've heard a lot of good things about them, but I have never personally dealt with them. I believe they are partners or owners of J.A.A.R.S.(i think that's the right initials) in Waxhaw, NC. You might could check that out online.

    Here's their main website: http://www.wycliffe.org/ ; they work closely with several other organizations, including the Summer Institute of Linguistics ( http://www.sil.org/ ), in the linguistics-and-translation end of things, as well as with many churches and parachurch organizations. More than 5000 Wycliffe translators are working in more than 70 countries. If you believe that giving people the Bible in their own languages is an essential part of fulfilling the Great Commission, then Wycliffe deserves your careful and prayerful consideration and, I think, your support.

    Kudos to them. When I was an undergraduate, they had a center at the University of Oklahoma, and I heard nothing but good. Of course, there was a couple with them from the church I was attending ...

    My wife and I life members of Wycliffe Associates, a support group for Wycliffe missionaries. I have been very pleased with the work of Wycliffe missionaries and also for opportunities for lay volunteering.
