    I think respect can be recognized regardless of the words being used.

    Because, nowdays, kids are addressing adults as "hey, you", using first names, and ect.

    Its simply a matter of showing respect. Evidently, since we have been thur a genertion or two with letting kids get away it, most adults no longer expect it.

    But this was about "ma'am" and "sir," which many "respecting" people never required to begin with.
