Robert A Schuller has never engaged in any false teachings. He was removed from the Hour of Power in 2008 by his brothers in law when he sought to change the format of the program. He resigned from Senior Pastor of the Crystal Cathedral several months later, and also withdrew from the RCA.

Well, I can't say whether he did or not. I have never heard his teaching. Why he would want to pastor a false church does make me question though.

If your dad gave you a mega-church with thousands of members and a multi-million dollar income without ever having done anything to earn it or show that you can rightly divide the word of truth (which, granted, in Robert Schuller's world, isn't really a big priority), would you turn it down?

Let's face it: he's the Dale Earnhardt, Jr of pop-Christianity.

His father's theology was questionable, but with the church itself, there's nothing false about it. We should not confuse the "Hour of Power" with the "Crystal Cathedral". The church itself adheres strictly to the faith and practices of the Reformed Church in America (Hour of Power does not).

Robert A Schuller became Senior Pastor at the Crystal Cathedral after being called there by the church's consistory. Previously, he has been senior pastor of another Reformed church (also RCA) in south Orange County.

I would turn it down, by the grace of God, if I was a true Christian. Yes.

I would somewhat agree with you although we can understand a few things: The predominant teaching of the church/organization will reflect in the vast majority of attendees. Hopefully, the vast majority of congregants in our church will understand, believe and follow the teachings of my church but not everyone will. So it's possible to be unsaved in my church as well as saved. In the same way, it's possible to have saved and unsaved in any church but the teachings of that church will indicate what the majority believe. So we can look at the teachings and say if they are not Biblical, the chances of being saved in that church are less than in a Biblical church.

You're presuming such. Given that he had already been a senior pastor in his own right, and given that the consistory, not his father, has authority to call a senior pastor (which the RCA must approve), there's nothing to suggest it wasn't earned.
You make a good point. We typically assume that those in our churches are saved. I think we are going to be surprused when we get to heaven, that people we expected to be there won't be, and that people we would never expect are. Because, ultimately, God and God alone knows a person's heart. We can never pretend to.

BTW, he graduated from Hope College in Grand Rapids (an RCA college) and then received his M Div from Fuller Seminary in California. Before going to the Crystal Cathedral, he was the senior pastor at a another church for 20 years. Thus, the actual facts don't sound like just getting the keys to his daddy's church (which we all know happens a lot of times in certain circles).

I don't know all RCA churches. The Crystal Cathedral under the teaching of Schuller, Sr. is.

This HAS to be their conclusion. That we were never saved to begin with.
That we must not have ever REALLY prayed the sinners prayer and asked Jesus to come into our lives, right?

Otherwise, how could I after all those years in a bible-believin' Baptist Church leave it for the 'Great Whore of Babylon!'

Satan is not called the father of lies for no reason. I'm not going to judge your justification, but I do believe a true believer can fall away to the point of acting like the lost.

I spend my weekends involved in Catholic evangelism where every person attending is given the opportunity to ask Jesus to be their Savior and follow Him as Lord. Sound like Satan at work?

Your question is pernicious and decieving. Not to disimilar than that of JWs or Mormons who say they just want to have a Bible study or talk about Jesus.

You continue to compare Catholic Christians to Mormons and JW. That is pernicious and deceiving.

Lori, pretend I'm one of these people and tell me what you tell them to try to convince them to "ask Jesus to be their Savior and follow Him as Lord".

**JohnV, please note: this question is addressed to Lori, not to you.**

Why? Just because we don't call catholicisim a cult? It's totally apostate at best! JW's and Mormons Jesus isn't almighty God. He is Lucifers brother (angel) to the mormons. He is the son of God to the JWs' as well as a mighty god. To the catholics Jesus lives in a box behind the alter and spends his time being sacrificed at every mass performed.

None of them have the Jesus of the bible and are all in the same boat. All three will send a man to hell if he believes their doctrines.

Actually, I do not. I compare the papacy, its dogmas, and it's practices to 0others forms of false Christianity, but personally I believe the papacy fulfills the prophecy of Scripture as that Antichrist, that Man of Sin, which is worse off if you ask me.

A Catholic Christian = A Christian who is born of God and by virture of being in Christ, belongs to the Universal Body of Christ.

A ROMAN Catholic "Christian" is someone who is in communion with the pope.

For starts, I explain that the key to the Good News is Jesus Christ Himself, if we do not experience the power, the presence and the person of the Lord in our lives, then maybe we have not turned to Jesus and opened our hearts to Him so that we might know him as Lord and Savior. I explain that He unlocks our hearts and minds and He wants to enter our lives and do His work in us. But we must invite Him. I also explain that to know Him is to know that He is Savior and that we need him for salvation, power and headship. We come to know His desire to wash us, annoint us and feed us. In knowing Jesus, we come to the know the Father who sent His Son so that through the Spirit of His Son in our hearts we might cry 'Father' and proclaim Jesus as Lord.

This is a week-end long 'retreat' and much more by way of scripture is presented. There comes a time when something very similar to an 'invitation' is given and people have opportunity to turn their lives over to Christ.

Many of the same scripture verses that you would be very familiar with are used in presenting Jesus to people who are predominately un-churched.
