It seems that all we are now doing is debating about debating. The question at hand is can we get back to debating/having lively discussions about biblical topics? And hopefully edifying the One that set us free.

I'm sure you will get a reply debating the debating about debating. It's to the point to where one might question not the knowledge, but the spirit behind the never-ending quest to prove one's intellect.

This was in a post that I put in another thread and I mean it with all my heart and this is the spirit I will use.

I maintain you can speak with authority but still in love. If I cannot back up my point of view with scripture then I’ll remain silent, study and pray until I have an answer.

trying prove ones intellect originates from personal insecurity. Trying to IMPROVE ones intellect suggests personal security

    No, I'm not!

The person who says this is a fellow Christian who attends my church, we pull this as a joke on other people. They are not aware we are pulling their chain.

Trouble is, we always start laughing afterward and give it away. :tongue3:

Did anybody's parent ever correct them for being argumentive?

My Dad used to say I would argue with a brick wall.

Most of my career has been secondary math, but I moved to 5th a couple of years ago! What a hoot!

Yeah, me too. Dad took me aside once and said, "Johnny, do you want to be like Brother So-and-so?" This was a particular trouble-making deacon who thought he was always right. That shocked me, and I abandoned my argumentative habits as best I could--until I discovered the Baptist Board a few years ago. [IMG]
