Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was convicted Wednesday on charges that he accepted bribes, free trips and other gratuities from contractors in exchange for helping them secure millions of dollars in city work while he was in office, including right after Hurricane Katrina.

The federal jury found Nagin guilty of 20 of 21 counts against him. He sat quietly at the defense table after the verdict was read and his wife, Seletha, was being consoled in the front row.

This is another example of the total depravity of mankind.

Strange: someone elected Mr. Nagin twice. A beloved La. governor was imprisoned for similar behavior.

Similar things have happened all the way to the White House.

"We do not wrestle against flesh and blood; but against spiritual wickedness in high places" probably applies here.

The Big Easy has a long history of corruption, not inconsistent with similar conditions at all levels--in the world.

I would still rather live here than in Iraq.

Vote out the cronies--good luck finding an honest politician.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

USA Today won't mention that he's a democrat.

Of course not, but had he been a Republican you can bet they would.
