Federal judge just ruled a huge victory to a Christian college!

A federal judge dealt a blow to Obamacare’s infamous contraception mandate Friday when heruled that Colorado Christian University (CCU) is exempt from providing students and staff with contraceptive and sterilization services.

According to Judge Robert E. Blackburn’s ruling, “the [Affordable Care Act] requires CCU to choose to take an action that violates its religious beliefs or to take an action that exposes CCU to substantial financial penalties.”

The university would have been saddled with millions of dollars in fines each year for having a health care plan without the option for contraceptive drugs, according to Campus Reform.

Blackburn concluded that the contraception mandate threatens the religious freedom of the private college and thus that it should not apply to the Christian university.
Attorney Eric Baxter of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty called the decision “an important win for religious liberty” according to a press release published by the law firm, which represents the Lakewood, Colorado school.

“A university like CCU, whose employees and students share its religious convictions concerning the sanctity of life, should not be forced against its beliefs to distribute drugs that it deems to be morally wrong,” continued Baxter.

The president of the college also celebrated the ruling. “We’re extremely grateful for the District Court’s affirmation of our religious freedom,” detailed CCU President William Armstrong. “Teaching sanctity of life from the moment of conception is an important part of the University’s mission and a core value shared by its employees and students.”
