No one is talking about it.

Did you like the speech? Did you think it would be effective in bringing in votes? What about Trump's delivery of the speech?

An hour since I posted this and no takers.

    OK, I'll start.
The speech was a dark and ominous portrayal of America. The solution is to elect Trump. That will turn around our problems starting on January 20, 2017.

Crime and violence is running rampant. Illegal immigrants are flooding across our borders and are committing crimes like murder. We're being humiliated overseas. "Men, women and children are being viciously mowed down, families ripped apart, and lives ruined."

The economic system is rigged in favor of the elites (of which Trump is a member, BTW.). The only solution to fixing the problem is to elect Donald Trump and he would "fix it fast, fix it now." He will "stand up for the neglected, ignored, and abandoned people. He will be their voice." It sounded like a speech Castro would make (and almost as long.)

The various trade deals we are engaged in are ripping the country apart, destroying jobs, hurting workers, and diminishing our freedom.*
(*one and only time the word freedom is used in the speech.)

We're one of the "highest taxed nations in the world" and if we enact his plan for the largest tax cut of any candidate, "new companies and new jobs will come roaring back into our country" and "trillions of dollars will start flowing back into our country enabling us to rebuild our bridges, roads, highways, railways, and our 'third world airports'." (It's economic magic, don't ask how it would work.)

He's gonna build the wall on the border (no mention of Mexico paying for it this time though, hmm...) Renegotiate the trade deals (no mention of why the other countries would want to sit down and negotiate new deals) He's even going to protect LGBTQ against terrorism. (Yes, he included protecting Queers in his speech, whatever they are, to thunderous applause...) You get the idea.

The speech was the longest in the modern era of presidential acceptance speeches. It portrayed a dark and decrepit country in decline. There was no talk of entrepreneurial spirit, no talk of unity, no talk of 'together we can do it'. Nothing about the greatness of America. The closest we got was: "America is a nation of believers, dreamers, and strivers that is being led by a group of censors, critics, and cynics."

The speech was filled with factual inaccuracies, there's already been several articles written about fact-checking his speech. Seek them out if you want the details.

Trump hit most of his campaign themes, "We don't win anymore, we're going to win again", "I'm going to build a wall", "I'm going to treat our vets better than they've ever been treated", etc.

Number of times the word liberty was used: 0
Number of times the word freedom was used: 1
Number of times the word "I" was used: 82

As usual with Trump there was scant details of the how any of this would work, just that he would do it, and do it NOW!"

However, the worst part of the speech, and it ran the entire length of it, was the delivery by Trump. From the beginning to end, it was one monotone shout. I mean he's yelling into the microphone. He's angry. Not one crack of humor, one ray of sunshine. I didn't see him smile once. The pacing was the same, just plod along yelling at the audience. No inflection, no change in cadence, no variation in voice volume. Preachers on BB know the importance of changing your delivery to keep audience interest. I can't believe his people, which he assures us he is "surrounded by the best in the world" didn't coach him on how to give a speech.

And the length. Like the Everyready bunny, it just kept going and going and going. Kind of like this post, LOL.

Advance transcript of the speech here:

Trump strikes me as a mercenary…a hired political gun. The issue is not whether or not the platform under which he campaigns reflects his own views, but if he will perform the job that he is “hired” to perform. It is all about Trump and about how he will accomplish what others could not. But people will vote for him because they think perhaps he can at least accomplish some of what he claims (and of course the Hillary issue).

Insofar as his speech goes, there are things that I liked. There are things that I thought was pandering (the LGBTQ comment, for example). Overall I thought him arrogant.

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Newt Gingrich says Trump's speech rivals "Reagan at his peak".

Go to the 55 second mark.

OK, what did you like? Just wondering because all I heard was doom and gloom.

    I'm trying to remember...:)

I liked his comments in support of law enforcement, his statements against special interest groups, strengthening the military, etc. Basically the run of the mill "get an applause" comments. But it also seems he was trying to present the nation in crisis mode (perhaps we are to some degree). He gave people what they wanted to hear...except maybe that LGBTQ comment....that was pandering. Even with some of his comments that struck a cord of agreement I could only picture martial law and some 70's movie. Confused I really don't know why, but that's what came to mind.

Here's the thing, ITL - if you believe those doom-and-gloom things, then what you heard was a politician who gave voice to what you believe, and thus, you're given hope--i.e., a positive outlook--that the problem is recognized and someone is talking about doing something about it. So naturally you would like it.

(haven't changed my mind; just putting forth the only explanation I can come up with for positive reviews of the speech)

    Yeah, I guess so.

Yes, but the part about what he's going to do about it is missing. Just that he's going to do something. I promise. Starting January 20, 2017. All this will start to end on that date. Vote for me and I'll fix it.

Melanie Mason of the Los Angeles Times was one of two fact checkers who was forced to report that statistics cited by Donald Trump during his Thursday acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention were “basically right,” though she added in her liberal way that immigration in general was “flat overall.”

However, Mason couldn’t deny the fact that her “fact checking” showed that Donald Trump was right in his assessments. In fact, she was the second reporter to confirm that The Donald’s facts were indeed facts.

Seema Mehta, another Times reporter, confirmed that Trump’s crime numbers were “mostly accurate,” though again she had to mitigate the damage to the mainstream media’s open borders agenda by claiming that “his conclusion are a stretch.”

Did anyone hear anything about being pro-life in Trump's speech? Anything about appointing pro-life judges to the Supreme Court? Anyone?

Didn't think so. But he's going to protect the lives of LGBTQ's. He singled them out for special protection.

All 100% True. What's the problem?

As a public speaker, all I can say about Trump is that, well, he is one.

I didn't watch any of speeches. Although, I did watch post-convention Ted Cruz throw dirt on his dead political career, when he was defending his decision not to endorse Trump.

Trump has prided a good list of names for the Supreme Court, and he can't be as bad as Hillary on this score.

It does appear that there was a lot of pandering to the sodomite community during the convention. But, that's not nearly as bad as we'l hear at the Democrat convention were moral people will be demonized and we'll hear promises to take away more of four freedoms. [Neo]Conservative Evangelicals have also been busy pandering to sodomites after the gay nightlight shooting (which had nothing to with homophobia), throwing morality under the buss to advance their Islamophobic interests. Trump did what they did.

Did you expect anything different from the media? They don't want him actually heard, at most they only want to tell others what to think about it.. But glad to help remedy that:
