...He is going to have to apologise to Sodom and Gomorrah.'

This oft repeated phrase has been said so much in conservative Christian circles that many accept it as truth.

    But it is absolute rubbish!

God could judge Sodom and Gomorrah and let America carry on her merry path into depravity till she destroys her very fibre.

If He doesn't judge America He is still holy and just and righteous and perfect and owes no one an apology because He is God.

Who is man to tell God who He has to apologise to?

In fact, America could even prosper materially in her sin and God would STILL not owe anyone an apology!

Yes - I am bothered by this rotten theology, and it really doesn't matter who said it!

Did you miss a 'not' in there somewhere?

Billy Graham is credited with this statement.

God has been judging America for her sins, and rewarding her righteousnesses since her establishment. What do you think the election of Obama was?

There is no need to fret. God will not be mocked. If and when America gets to the point of her sister, Sodom, He will judge her accordingly.

    It's actually Ruth Graham's statement.

We're already under his judgment. That's why folks feel like they have to decide between the lesser of two evils. God's giving us the evil we've sown.

And the only way to not support evil is to not support evil.

You mean as far as a candidate? I'm leaning toward writing Ron Paul in. While he's something of a kook when it comes to foreign policy, I like where he stands on a lot of the other issues.

This isn't supposed to be a politics thread. It is about God judging or not judging nations.

All this hoop la about storms being God's judgement. Is nonsense. Where I live this last summer many Christians lost there homes to fires. People were saying the same things. "IT's God's Judgement" Yet Christians are not to be judged. Goodness Lot was saved out of Sodom just because he was Abrahams nephew. Does God condemn the righteous along with the guilty?
What are you going to do when God judges you? If this is true?

The original post is well thought out and correct, however the original comment is a quip, saying or sound bite not meant to be theological in nature nor to be judged by that criteria, much like this statement. "But it is absolute rubbish!" which is neither absolute nor rubbish, it is an assemblage of typed characters not qualifying as the usual rubbish of empty cans, garbage and bits of paper mixed together until printed out, crumpled up and placed in a rubbish can. It would actually be better to put it in a recycle container but then it wouldn't be rubbish any longer but it would be absolute recycle which may be the real problem, a lot of people have recycled the comment too much.

Rather doubt anyone quoting it nor the original composer of the comment said it thinking that God HAD to do anything. In fact I'd guess He hasn't wasted a lot of His eternalness worrying about being told what to do by His children.

Perhaps God's judgment is to let America slide into the same state as Sodom and Gomorrah. When the leaders of the nation endorse homosexual marriage or unions; when the dominate political party celebrates abortion; when professing Christians endorse this behavior; then we are well on the way!
