I fold, but for a different team.

I keep my comp running full time, and try to keep my wife's running it, too. I have an AMD 3200+ 64 bit CPU in my current setup, while my wife's has an AMD Athlon 2000+. Needless to say, I fold faster on mine... but both are folding on my account.

I've got access to some very high powered machines. They sit idle when not doing processing runs. Maybe I'll look into getting the client onto them on a test basis.

And I mean VERY high powered machines ;)

Bummer... it doesn't seem that SMP machines get an advantage over standard machines as the client isn't optimized. Meaning, my big machines won't get to use their full power. Although, they do have a very large amount of RAM and each CPU is way more powerful than your average (or even above average) home computers. So, I've installed it on a few machines and we'll just have to see what happens.

I used to be wary of Folding, but not anymore. Since I leave my computer running anyway, I figured it could be doing something useful.

Unfortunately, I fold for a different forum. But, at least, it is all for the same cause.

I keep my main rig going 24/7. I try to have my old one going as well, when my wife isn't using it. My main rig has an AMD64 3200+, so it churns through it pretty good. My old rig has an AMD 2000+, so it is much slower about it.

I've already earned us some points with one WU completed, but I have a bunch of work that is set to wrap up this evening. I'm curious to see how much is done by tomorrow morning. Especially with a few of the machines set to do the larger chunks.

I've always seen the SETI distributed computing project and had no interest to be involved with that, but this one is very exciting!

The 14 CPUs don't hurt when it comes to racking up some points :thumbs: I just wish it took advantage of multi-processor machines, or even dual-core for that matter.

Little bit of an update... I have 8 clients running on an 8-way 3.0GHz Xeon machine (that is 8 real processors, not the dual cores.) Here is what the CPU graph looks like with 7 processing, and one going after a workload:

If this is fruitful, I'm going to do the same on some 4-way and 2-way machines.

Top 1000, here we come (hopefully!)

I just wanted to say for those of you who haven't tried this as it seems kind of technical, that this only needs to be as technical as you make it.

If you want to just install the client and let it run with the satisfaction of knowing you are helping... that works! It runs, and runs, and every little bit helps (that whole drop in a bucket thing.) It's a simple install, and I've got it running on all my home machines with no problems.

Now on the other hand... if you are a nerd like me who wants to tweak things and really get into the details of what is happening... that works too!

Although technical jargon has flown around here, it's not necessary to know anything to help with the Folding@Home. It's kind of like cars. You can drive a car daily and not know about the internals and it will get you where you need to go. But, the kid next door can tear his car apart, rebuild the engine, and then can do quarter-miles in a flash.

If it's also thought that a walkthrough post of the install and configuration with screenshots is helpful, I'll be willing to do that (at least for Windows.) Just let me know.

So, if you haven't tried it or are on the fence, please give it a go. It helps a worthy effort, and it could potentially provide positive exposure for the Board. Just another way to let our light shine!

What has happened to GeeForce and SovGrace, et. al.? With all of us pitching in we could really make great progress. Did they drop out?

We're only 23 positions away from the top 1000 teams... so close, yet so far away. Don't know why some folks stopped production.

Well, we're in the top 1000 teams, currently at position 995. There are a total of 45381 teams, so that's a pretty good accomplishment!
