I agree, mainly because Calvinism is viewed by many in different ways and it has been redefined by many over the years. I believe Piper has it right, we should just explain to those who ask what we truly believe. Sadly, how many professing Christians do it?

I still don't completely understand what Calvinism is yet.

So you deny that "Salvation is of the LORD"

I'm just trying to learn more about it for my personal knowledge, not for the purpose of judgement.

Please kindly explain which of the following points you disagree with and give a Biblical response as to why-

    Thanks.

The thing I like is that Piper gives the scriptural basis for his view. One may not agree with his interpretation, but at least you know where he got it.

And what's more- I have never read anywhere that he calls those who disagree with him 'unbiblical', but rather compares their beliefs with what the Bible says with humility and grace. For example here is a critique he wrote of Ayn Rand:

So you believe God created some people predestined for Hell? Nothing they can do about it. He's not gonna "call" them to Himself? No matter what? Calvinists are a strange bunch.

I disagree with his 2nd point, election is according to foreknowledge (1 Pet 1:2). I believe this is God's foreknowledge of who will believe shown in John 6:64.

I disagee with his 4th point, we are not made alive to believe, we must believe to be made alive (John 20:31 and MANY other verses).

Now, I do not say man can possibly believe without the revelation and conviction of God's word, but this is not life. Hebrews 6 clearly shows a man can have knowledge and enlightenment of salvation, and yet turn from the truth and fall away.

I agree that saying you are a Calvinist is not a good description because many Christians who believe only in the eternal security point also call themselves Calvinists. Why don't you just use terms like predestination, unconditional elecction, and irresistible grace if you want to differ yourself from other Christians?

Interesting response. May I assume you don't care about the eternal destiny of lost people and would rather mock those who do care?

You posted a response to B4L:
Which resulted in my post of:

Now you are apparently accusing B4L of being lost and you also accuse me of not caring for the lost since B4L was the subject of your post about lost people.

    This is against board rules.

And just because someone is not a Calvinist does not mean they "deny that salvation is of the Lord" so I posted  instead of  trying to be nice.

I haven't followed the link, but I agree with the statement of the thread title. However, I see over and over again on the BB terms like "Calvinist", "Doctrines of Grace," and "Reformed" used as shorthand to indicate a person's general belief about who/how/why God saves sinners, and I sometimes use such terms in the same way.
