You were all primed long ago and still chose the hype and the lies over reality. Thought I'd give it one more try though.

Have you seen my new signature line? Bernays said that in 1928. Guess he was right all along huh? "Four out of five dentists agree". It only took those six words from Bernays to sell toothpaste to millions of consumers over a span of years but it only took three words to sell a whole country an illusion overnight. Propaganda has advanced a whole bunch in 80 years, no?

You listen to it also. It's just that your propaganda is different from other folk's propaganda.

The word has an interesting etymology:

The word propaganda comes from the Latin verb propagare which means 'to reproduce (a plant) by cuttings; spread for sprouting; propagate; enlarge'.

In 1622, Pope Gregory XV established the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide 'the congregation for propagating the faith' in order to centralize all of the Roman Catholic Church's missionary activity under the control of the Holy See. Referred to informally as "Propaganda," the group of cardinals was charged with the direction of ecclesiastical affairs in non-Catholic countries. In 1627, Pope Urban VIII established the Collegium de Propaganda 'the College of Propaganda' in order to educate priests for work in foreign missions. So propaganda originally referred simply to the missionary work of the Church.

Fifty years later, the political sense had completely replaced the religious, and propaganda had taken on a derogatory connotation...

William Safire (in Safire's New Political Dictionary) says that "current usage is definitely pejorative" and remarks that propaganda is "one of the few [words] that mean the same to both Communists and anti-Communists." Of course, when the other side does it, it's propaganda; when we do it, it's "information."
