The gospel of Jesus has been traded in for a narrative of fear.

For the last few years Christians have been singing worship songs that include lyrics like “keep my eyes above the waves, when oceans rise…” and yet have rejected refugees who’ve seen loved ones die beneath waves, who themselves haveliterally struggled to keep from drowning in oceans. Those American Christians — particularly white evangelicals — continue to sing the words: “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders …” but fail to realize the shameful irony that they’re largely responsible for refusing shelter and opportunity to some of the world’s most helpless and oppressed people.

This represents a predominant theme of Westernized Christendom: proclaiming Christian rhetoric while actively — or passively — practicing the opposite in reality.

Because while the gospels instruct followers of Christ to help the poor, oppressed, maligned, mistreated, sick, and those most in need of help, Christians in America have largely supported measures that have rejected refugees, refused aid to immigrants, cut social services to the poor, diminished help for the sick, fueled xenophobia, reinforced misogyny, ignored racism, stoked hatred, reinforced corruption, and largely increased inequality, prejudice, and fear.

    From the OP:
If Christians refuse to help and actually use their political advocacy and opinions to furtherhurtrefugees, immigrants, women, foreigners, minorities, the poor, the oppressed, the persecuted, the sick, the LGBTQ community — and aren’t abiding by the golden rule of loving their neighbors as themselves, then who exactly are Christians supposedly loving?

I cannot remember any Biblical prohibitions on being refugees, immigrants, women, foreigners, minorities, poor, oppressed, persecuted, or sick. Not so with those who identify themselves by the perversions of their actions.

The article is about American Christians, not the government.

Should you live your life as a Chrisian or a political conservative who refuses to help people?

Does you politics override your following Christ?

Then why was the election of Trump referred to? And borders ; the international kind? and social services? And immigration policies? 're these what [HASHTAG]#individual#[/HASHTAG] Christians execute? .No, the OP was much about government. So again: should our government govern by the Bible?

When has our government ever really followed The Bible? G. Washington was a mason; T. Jefferson seriously revised the Bible to fit his own philosophy. Many of our founding fathers were deists and borderline humanists. They were seriously infected with Renaissance thinking.

Many of us want to return to something which has never existed. We all need to repent and get right with God. Narcissists have trouble with humility.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Nobody needs or wants a history lesson here. Some boy from a crustacean hamlet claimed he was talking about individual Christians, but he complained about social services and borders and the election-- that government is not Marxist enough.

"American Christianity has Failed" certainly implies a certain historical discussion--at least all the way back to the religions of our founding fathers.

Jefferson is a lot like many cosmology types: he recognizes some sort of higher intelligence, but has no personal relationship with Jesus, The Christ, Son of the Living God, aka Immanuel. The same can be said for much of Christendom--they have no clue as to the real Jesus.
C.S. Lewis is in this group , he is a world renowned "Christian."

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I do not fear. I trust Christ therefore I refuse to allow fear to control my life.

    Why do you fear?
    Why do you create fear?

What could a hypocrite possibly have to fear?

    Matthew 15:7-9

You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

If that's true, then you don't carry insurance, you don't lock your doors, and you don't have regular medical or dental checkups. Fact?

I am so glad the Baptist Board has an expert on who has a real relationship with Jesus. It's so good to know we can turn to you to out bogus "Christians" like C.S. Lewis. We are truly blessed.

You're a liberal, one who condones, sponsors , and supports the advancment of all kinds of sin in the world , and you ask this question?

Once again, have you read what the Bible says about hypocrites?

    Misogyny? Prejudice?

American Christians have been on the battle lines for years. Who did you think fought slavery? Who fought for women's rights? Christian Americans.

You fools buy the propaganda hook line and sinker.

I tell you what...you tell us how many refugees is to many? Trump is still allowing people into this country. You're to stupid to understand that the leftists media is lying to you.
