    So no prophets are allowed at Southwestern? Retweeting a link to an article suggesting that it is time for the President to resign is not much of a criticism.

    Actually, we have not "seen demonstrated that the [trustee] board is spineless." Your ill-informed accusations about an institution you obviously know nothing about do not 'demonstrate' anything.

    Bro. Reynolds,

    Why is it so disgraceful? The SBC is only in session a couple of days each year and meets next month to consider business for the entire year.

    Each seminary of the SBC is accountable for and to the trustees alone. No more! No less! So to make such a statement as "Disgraceful that SBC allowed this to happen;" I would say as graciously as I possibly can, that someone has a limited knowledge of how the SBC works.

    I do have a "dog in the fight" but have left Dr. Patterson's situation up to the sovereignty of God and the wisdom of the trustees. But I just could not let this confession pass without saying something to correct it. Many is the time when an SBC entity head or seminary prof or president says or does something that is out of step with the rank and file SBC churches and / or church members. That person is only responsible in the short term to those just above him or her like a corporation. Nuff said.

    Since a Baptist pastor has been convicted of crimes against children - All this is just one more reason for me to have avoided attending a baptist church & depending upon the BIBLE & the HOLY SPIRIT to educate me in the Lord.

    I guarantee you the SBC could have stopped it. The SBC leadership have become wimps and are doing nothing but pandering to race baiters and caving to political pressures.

    Either Dr. Patterson stepped way out of line or there is more to this than we have been told.

    How? The Convention doesn't exist yet. It will be called into existence on June 12. And it will cease to exist at 5 PM on June 13.

    Research the phrase "Rope of sand." SBC affiliated churches are autonomous. The colleges are either governed by the Local or State Association (rare) or by an elected board of trustees.

    The seminaries are all governed by an elected board of trustees. SWBTS is currently governed by 40 trustees, 38 men and 2 women. And they have the final say in matters concerning the seminary.

    That is the most biased, slanted, suggestive bunch of twaddle I have ever read. None of it is best evidence, and none of it would stand up in a court of law.

    I understand exactly how the SBC operates. I used to go to the annual conventions. The SBC has become concerned more about shedding its historical image than it is concerned about ALWAYS doing what is right.
