Units in the U.S. Army that trace their heritage and lineage to the Civil War are entitled to display a battle streamer for the Civil War on their flagpoles. This streamer is half blue and half gray, the color theme of the second ribbon design. Units with Confederate lineage use campaign streamers with the gray edge up and units with Union lineage use campaign streamers with the blue edge up.[6] The campaign lettering requires two distinct sets of streamers for each campaign, one set for each side.[5]

Do you know which current units have a CSA lineage? I suppose they are National Guard units.

I think we have had enough of these "the South side had some good stuff" efforts to avoid admitting slavery should be rejected by all, and nothing good came from slavery. Whites only drinking fountains anybody?

Shouldn't all these Jim Crow efforts be called out for what they are and shouldn't we admit all these brave boys who died fighting on the wrong side of history were betrayed by their racist leaders? Back in the 1960's MLK asked "how long" and people answered "its blowing in the wind..."

    • "I know you are asking today, "How long will it take?" (Speak, sir) Somebody's asking, "How long will prejudice blind the visions of men, darken their understanding, and drive bright-eyed wisdom from her sacred throne?" Somebody's asking, "When will wounded justice, lying prostrate on the streets of Selma and Birmingham and communities all over the South, be lifted from this dust of shame to reign supreme among the children of men?" Somebody's asking, "When will the radiant star of hope be plunged against the nocturnal bosom of this lonely night, (Speak, speak, speak) plucked from weary souls with chains of fear and the manacles of death? How long will justice be crucified, (Speak) and truth buried?" (Yes, sir) I come to say to you this afternoon, however difficult the moment, (Yes, sir) however frustrating the hour, it will not be long, (No sir) because "truth crushed to earth will rise again." (Yes, sir) How long? Not long, (Yes, sir) because "no lie can live forever." (Yes, sir) How long? Not long, (All right. How long) because "you shall reap what you sow." (Yes, sir)"
    • "How long? Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." (MLK)

You are talking about Confederate Unit Awards, Sir. You are talking about honoring units that fought to sustain slave labor.
When did this practice start? I would guess 1905 to 1935. Jim Crow time, and time where on southern trees "strange fruit" hung.
