    The first month of the 2023 fiscal year for the U.S. government ended October 31 with an increase in the national debt of $309.4 billion. Annualized rate - $3.7 trillion.

    We have to cut budges - in a lot of places!

    How many federal jobs could be cut?

    I am a strong supporter of the military --- BUT
    (I am assuming this is still the policy of the DOD)

    A Gi at Ft Hood, TX - gets orders for Korea.
    at the same time - he gets orders that will send him back to
    Ft Hood. Since he is going overseas on an "unaccompanied" 12 month tour, the Army will ship his family back to their HOR -- lets say it is in Richmond Va;
    which would be about 1400 miles. At 50 cents a mile - that would be $700 just in mileage, not to mention the cost to ship their HHG back to VA. Then 12 months later - the Army will ship the family to come back to Ft Hood. --- I condend that if the GI is returning to the same post - then dependents would not be authorized travel, but they would be able to remain in govt housing.

    Currently, when a GI goes to a long tour overseas - it is currently 36 months. Again, the Army will pay your expenses for that. I would recommend that tour be increased to 39 months. That extra 3 months is not much - but could add up to a lot of savings.

    Thoughts?

    Saving pennies on all the military "small brain thinking" will not impact a bloated budget much imho. Lots bigger fish to fry.

    That just one example - lots more we can save on

    But with Korea - about 28,000 troops. If only 25% were married - we are talking about 140 moves every week (some 7,000 per year) Lets say a PCS move is $5,000 - that would be some $700 grand per week = 35 million dollars per year
