[qutoe]This from the people who are graduates of the Origen school of "make the Bible say anything you want via parables and allegory"?[/quote]
Let me go ahead and show the hypocrisy in this statement real quick.

We have one on here that says the "servents" in the parables are "unsaved" people, but there is no Scripture that says that. And yet we are the only ones that "make the Bible say anything we want via parables."

Seems like we have some that think what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. It's okay for "you" to make arguments that way, but no one else can. Well there you go.

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, [even] God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:39-44)

These were unsaved Jews Jesus was dealing with JJump. You really don't believe the Word of God, do you?

Nice try SFIC, but you didn't answer my question. How were Jews saved back in the day? Let's just start there and move forward shall we?

We know at least 11 were saved during Jesus' ministry. I am sure there are more, for Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea believed. Mary and Joseph believed. As a matter of fact, they believed several months prior to Jesus' birth.

Because that's what the Bible says.

What must I do to be saved?

Believe [aorist; punctiliar; plus nothing else] and you will be saved [indicative; no maybe's about it].

    Believe once.

    Nothing else.

    It will happen.

You must not have paid attention to Col 1:21-23

Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
Col 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
    Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Salvation is an ongoing process it's a work of God that He will finish. If our faith fails it isn't because God failed to keep us in the faith, it's because we were never there to begin with.
Faith is the hope of our Salvation. So with out faith we have no hope. with out hope there is no Salvation for us.

    Amen, MB!

According to Colossians 1:23 one has to continue believing. Great Scripture!

And another of the heretical doctrines of the ME proponents is proven false.

It is quite obvious that if one does not continue in the faith that that one was not saved in the first place. That one received the Word with joy, but by and by because of the world was offended by the Word.

    There was no real root.

    Good quote, MB. Note:

    1. We are presented holy and blameless because HE reconciled us in the body of His flesh through death. Nothing whatsoever is said about works.

    2. The ME folk are the ones who have moved away from the hope of the gospel and want to place Christians back in bondage again to fear, lest they suffer 1,000 years in hell. Does this mean they are not continuing in the faith, grounded and settled? That is the question I'd ask myself if I promoted ME.

Have ya read Acts? Who persecuted the early Christian Church? Would saved Jewish Christians seek to silence and kill Christ's followers?

Yes. Some parts more than others. Thanks for asking.

Jews. Which brings up another point, but that's for another day. Your point is?

Well I wouldn't say they were Jewish Christians as not all saved people throughout history are "Christians." But not only did these saved people want to silence Christ's followers they did silence some of them.

That is no different than what has happened in Christendom itself with "critics" of one fashion or another being silenced or even killed because they did not go along with the "majority" at the time.

There is nothing unusual about this as history records it. Wanting to silence people and/or kill people does not a saved person make.

There are those that would have all of us that believe in the gospel of the kingdom to be silenced. I would hardly call these folks unsaved.

Great Scripture. And I would ask the same question as was asked earlier. So what if they don't continue in the faith. What happens. We have one that has answered that they were never saved in the first place, yet that does appear in Scripture ANYWHERE.

And how do you reconcile this continuance with Acts 16:30-31 and Ephesians 2:8-9 which says that it is a moment in time. Let me go ahead and answer the question. It can not be reconciled. These two views are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You have can't have Scripture saying that it's a moment in time and Scripture saying that it's a lifelong process.

Those two things can not be harmonized as the same thing. It's either or not both.

So contextually you are left with a continuing if faith that doesn't have anything to do with everlasting life because of a contradiction that is placed on Scripture when you try to take an apple and an orange and make them the same piece of fruit. It's impossible and leaves a HUGE mess.

SFIC are you going to answer my question or are you just going to leave me hanging? How were people saved back in the day?
