where the bucks are  Just read that MS is going to go ahead and stop the sale of XP as planned however will continue to sell it to manufacturers that will use it on mini laptops. They realize these units are not really up to Vista's memory requirements but that xp is a good fit.

They aren't going to close the door on money flow

Sure, companies are in business to make money. But for low powered machines (as well as fast ones), I like Linux much better than Vista.

We had to buy a Vista laptop today.
We may take it back though.
My had to have a laoptop for the next couple of days and I need mine Monday.
So we went to Best Buy and got the cheapest thing they had.

THe specs are not that bad but Vista (Home premium) is lousy.

We mauy take it back and get another Mac but today we could not afford what we could get locally.

I should note that we are now a "balances computer family"

I have posted this evening from a Mac (which is what I am typing on now) A Linux based EeePC and a Toshiba laptop with Vista.

Ya, runs in my mind it was in June that they will officially drop it from retail. There will probably be a lot of old copies left sitting on shelves for quite awhile.

There will still be lots of places on the Internet to buy a new, legit copy of XP.

One place I know of is:

    www.trustprice.com

They have new sealed copies of all the old Micro$oft O/S'es all the way back to Win 3.1 and DOS 6.22, including Windows 95 on floppies (as well as Win 98, ME ,2K, NT4, etc.)
