Filmmaker: No doubt Saddam had WMDs:Real question, he says, should be: Where did they go?

The producer of a new documentary on Saddam Hussein says there is no question that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.

The real question he says, should be: Where did they go?

Former real estate broker Brad L. Maaske interviewed dozens of Iraqis in producing his film "Weapon of Mass Destruction: The Murderous Reign of Saddam Hussein." He says it is absurd that prominent Democrats, including a former U.S. president, continue to say the former dictator did not possess WMDs.

"There's interview after interview of people who say they saw truckloads of something going out through Syria and into the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon," he recalls. "And of course we've tried to track that as best we can. The U.S. military can't go into Syria; it can't go into Lebanon. But the question is: Where did those weapons go?"

We should have taken out the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, stronghold of Hezbollah, long ago.

They are more than likely in Syria or Iran.

Yeah, it has always seemed crazy to me that some folks are firm in thier conclusion that we did not find any after the ivasion. We prepared for it in plain sight for months. He had all the time in the world to hide them.

I'm waiting for the answer from Ken: "The trucks were empty. Or maybe they were carrying lettuce. Are you saying we should now attack Syria?!".

I always thought the inspectors answered this question well before the shock and awe campaign and later invasion.

But then they were all demonized and marginalized for their reports. Those dirty liberal rats!

Yepperdoodle, seems like those dirty liberal pacifist inspector rats were marginalized and demonized pretty hard by those dirty liberal pacifist punks in the dirty liberal pacifist media now that I think about it.

This is the one part of the war that I do fault Bush for. I have said this all along.

But, Joe, when you announce a war ahead of time you give your enemy plenty of time to move them. We debated for a while on just when would be the right time to invade. For this I fault Bush to some extent, but I also fault those who so vociferously denounce Bush because we "didn't find the WMD's".

So this real estate broker, born & raised in the US, who doesn't speak Arabic or know the region, has found Iraqis to interview. How did he meet the particular ones he did? What makes them particularly credible? Was this filmed in Iraq? Is it in English or Arabic? Does he use news footage or are these all fresh interviews made for the occasion?

This could be a groundbreaking investigative film or it could be blatent propaganda without a shred of integrity.

Who is Brad L. Maaske? What makes him credible?

A question one could ask about Ted Koppel, Wolf Blitzer, Dan Rather, Mike Wallace, and a whole host of "journalists" who push an agenda. But this documentary complements a growing body of evidence, which our government is now taking seriously, that the weapons were moved under our noses.

And still, you avoid answering the question: Where did the WMD's that we know Iraq had, go?

    FTR,

That was my whole point. If Reagan had been president, we would have learned about the invasion of Iraq the morning after it happened like we did with Lybia and Saddam would have been caught with his pants down with the WMD's, they would not be in the hands of another terrorist state, and the insurgency would not have been as organized as they are right now.

I know for a fact that Hussein had WMD after Desert Storm. I have seen reliable information that makes me believe that he had them as later as 1999. I do not know with any specifics anything later than that. However, I truly only a fool would think that they were destroyed between then and the invasion. I understand why the political stunt had to be played, but it is clear that those in Washington that no protest the loudest were quite sure that he had WMD when Clinton was lofting bombs into Iraq.

Where the weapons are now is a valid point. There were convoys leaving Iraq just prior to the war starting. The trucks went into Syria, and I believe the WMD went with them. Should we launch an attack on Syria? Probably not. They will not be a threat to us there, it is Israel that needs to worry about it. Now, whether we should help them is another question. However, none of this really matters right now. If we allow Iran to get "THE BOMB" then all the other WMD issues are insignificant at best. We can worry about Iraq's chemical weapons when nukes aren't the primary concern.

That's practically impossible. The US had satellites watching the suspected sites for months. There were inspectors on the ground, roughly two thousand inspectors right before the war began. If they had started relocating them, we would have known.

Besides, do you really think that, when faced with utter and complete destruction, Saddam decided not to use these WMD's (despite a track record of using them without hesitation) and opted for the spider hole?

I haven't seen this movie, but I have seen Greenwald's film "Uncovered" and the people he interviewed [List of the "experts" and their credentials]

IMO, if he had them, he would most certainly have used them.

    Regards,
    BiR

The Reagan Administration was supplying Saddam during the '80's.

Sometimes our friends become our enemies and vice versa. Had Saddam become a threat to America, he would have handled them the way he did Lybia.

A point worth noting is that the person in question still controls Libya, surviving three more Presidential administrations. Only very recently has he even started to come back to the table.

Another point worth making is how he doesn't seem too interested in terrorism since we killed part of his family in that bombing of Lybia in the 1980's.
